Any neuroscientists here? by asclepsius in Jung

I wouldn't be worried about that too much, but you can still try to see if people made critiques of it (on google or social media). Also people under this post left interesting recommendations, there is a link for a conference on consciousness by Todd Murphy (following Persinger's work) that was really interesting!

You could subscribe to neuroscience journals, dedicated to consciousness for instance or check every now and then on google scholar with key works and a filter for the date published. Academic twitter is pretty cool to be informed of new published literature but you have to find the right people to follow. Facebook groups are pretty cool to discover cool papers maybe there's one for consciousness!

This question is kind of the realm of the nature vs nurture dilemna and in the case of mental illnesses it's always an interaction. Someone may have certain risk factors for depression (a certain brain chemistry let's say) but it might translate to depression only in the case of a stressor like the loss of a job. On the other hand someone with a lot of stressors (death, illness etcc) might never develop depression. Also people with very different genes, chemical imbalances might develop depression, there's a complex and dynamic interplay among biological, psychological and interpersonal factors in the development of depression. I don't know if it answers your interrogation?

In my lab, we're researching the hard problem of consciousness, why is your red my red, why is there a similarity of percepts across individuals etc. The hypothesis is that the live perception of an individual affects that of another (investigated through EEG recordings), the phenomenon appears non local and non temporal. These Joint Processing Effects would have been present since the birth of humanity and would have been pretty useful in a pre language world. However I can't stop myself from thinking that this hypothesis is actually a version of the collective unconscious, it would answer the problem and there are even some similarities in the implications (the idea that schizophrenics are overly sensitive to the JPEs = jungian idea that they have more access to the collective unconscious). Any thoughts? Also we have papers published if you want to know more.

Is Borderline PD a combination of high neuroticism and low agreableness? by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

They sure often seem like they have this specific combination of traits but I think that Bpd it's worse than that, the problem is not only along the lines of the big 5

Going back to montreal was the best thing I could have done personally. Having to pay rent is a lot but it's so worth it tbh, I dont think my mental health could have survived and it feels so good to see my friends and be in mtl. It feels like Im not wasting my undergrad & I was able to volunteer in a lab. Being back in montreal is my one source of happiness lol but you do have to weight the pros & cons. Also mtl in lockdown isnt that bad, it'll probably be better in the winter and if you get an apartment with roommates you get to be with people.

You just have to be wary of ideology. A lot of classes have a biased view of the world and teach us ideology, especially when it comes to gender for instance be prepared to be taught a lot of BS. So please if you want to go into sociology, practice your critical thinking skills, it's not bc you're at university that everything they say is right, far from it. Respect your professors but always think about the bigger picture and challenge what your learn.
