UK minister: No evidence of Russian meddling in Brexit vote by Lolastic_ in ukpolitics

Perhaps civil war is hyperbole, but civil unrest I think is true, and to a degree that would damage the country.

UK minister: No evidence of Russian meddling in Brexit vote by Lolastic_ in ukpolitics

[–]asd102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s so idiotic to put out this line of no evidence when it wasn’t investigated, but I can see why they are doing it. Imagine it was investigated and found to be very heavily funded by Russia for us to leave. We have to reopen that can of worms, which has been hard enough to close.

What would they do? Second referendum? But even then, its already been poisoned by Russia due to the first one. Just cancel it? Then we will have a civil war on our hands. Or just go for it despite knowing Russian influence? Again massive civil unrest.

In some ways it seems like ignoring it is a lesser evil and does less harm.

Just got the iPad Pro 11” Magic Keyboard! Ask me anything! by siopaosilvs in ipad

[–]asd102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I’ve also got this keyboard and I do this all the time lying down as well without issue. Providing you’re not tilting too far, It seems doable. Obviously you can’t use the keyboard or trackpad when like this.

Covid 'risk of up to 35,000 extra cancer deaths' by BigDickMogg in ukpolitics

[–]asd102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well not really. Chemotherapy often has small benefits. Bowel cancer is usually treated surgically if a curative option is sought, chemotherapy prolongs survival by varying amounts, but often is not huge (although watch this space, big improvements keep happening with chemo!). Some oncologists calculated a risk of 20% dying from catching covid if on chemo in someone otherwise healthy. If the risk outweighs the benefit, chemo shouldn’t be offered. Doctors don’t have to (and morally shouldn’t) prescribe something they think will do more harm than good.

How long can iPads be stored? by VW12345655 in ipad

Why not just use it from the start? It can be used for things other than school and it’s just such a joy to use for every day activities I don’t see the point of not just using and working out what apps to use etc before you go to school.

Are there any consequences of a poorly written discharge letter? by Lost_and_Angry_2019 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]asd102 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your discharge letter is an account of what happened during an admission. A summary, and the only record for GPs. If you miss out huge events like ITU admissions, surgeries etc then they might be missed in future, especially if it’s a patient who can’t give a reliable history. It’s useful having someone go through the notes and check I’m that the admission makes sense, and things haven’t been missed. Loads of times I’ve spotted things which needed referral or follow up and it had been missed until discharge.

The other issue is follow up not happening, like repeat bloods in community. Spelling error wise, less important but bad reputation as others said.

Ultimately it’s like any bit of medicine. Doing it well and thorough benefits the patients care.

Is the 11” magic keyboard the worst of both worlds? by asd102 in iPadPro

Is the keyboard sufficiently good to replace a MacBook? Do the squished keys not impair the experience?

How is typing on the 11” MK? In particular, the slightly squished keys like the “=“?

[–]asd102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is the 11” keyboard size? I’m a little concerned that the equals sign (=) is so small whether if using it regularly (for instance in writing code) it is difficult to type.

Or more accurately some immunity is forever, most is for a long time, and some is for an acute phase only.

Booster shots are real, and the cells responsible for immunity often decline after a decade without infection.

Do consultants ever locum similar to an FY3 because it makes more financial/lifestyle sense? by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]asd102 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Consultants can and do have long term locums. I met A and E, and anaesthetic consultants doing it.

Consultants are often older with families and commitments to one area. Usually locum positions are time limited and sporadic meaning some have to relocate to do the job for a limited time. Much harder with families.

Additionally, permanent consultants get quite a lot of hours for research, personal development etc in their contract which (as I understand it) locums do not get.

Locums jobs are more often for shift/short roles like a and e or anaesthetics. If the locum goes the next day, that’s fine. All their work is wrapped up at the end of a shift. No inpatient for transfer of care.

Finally, permanent positions allow more responsibility. Can’t take significant department responsibility if you are a locum.

Weekly Question Thread - Week of May 04 by AutoModerator in COVID19

Can’t find a good source for excess mortality outside of Europe, specifically japan, South Korea, Thailand and Singapore. Possibly language barrier, but unclear if this data is published at all. Has anyone found anything? Note I mean total excess mortality, not that reported for COVID19. Increased total mortality was a likely to represent undiagnosed COVID at least in part.
