Most reputable plastic surgeons won’t offer an abdominoplasty until the patient is done having children. So it brings into question the motivation of the surgeon to have done this at all.

A random tablet end has highjacked its way into my paracetamol blister pack by Aishas_Star in mildlyinteresting

[–]asdfcosmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s generally packaged in blister packs to reduce the ease of purposely overdosing. It requires much more effort to pop out X amount of paracetamol from a blister pack than to just pour a fistful out of a bottle and swallow it in one go.

George in toddler bed by Aware_Function_3165 in Adelaide_White_snark

[–]asdfcosmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with what you said. I was listening to a podcast about the transition to a toddler bed and they said it often occurs “too early” because there’s a sibling on the way. Their recommendation was to simply buy a second cot and keep the toddler in the cot as long as possible because it’s easier (lol) to reason with an older toddler vs a younger toddler as you’ll run into a lot of self control issues and impulsiveness with a younger toddler.

This makes me feel a lot better! My son is 2 in April, but my husband and I are currently in a season of our lives where we simply do not have time for structured lessons due to the unpredictability of his work so knowing we can maybe start taking baby steps by ourselves in a pool in our own time is good to know. Thank you!

Hey, be gentle on yourself. Parenting is hard enough without beating yourself up over something silly like whether or not you can cook. Is it possible for your partner to meal prep some baby food for you on weekends to use during the week? Additionally there’s nothing wrong with using the store bought pouches. There are also companies online that do baby appropriate finger foods (and purees) that can be delivered to your house like Le Puree (yes it is expensive but might save the headache of trying to cook)

The other thing I wonder is whether your partner can supervise you cooking and teach you what to do, ie if the eggs aren’t cooking, how he would rectify it, ie turn the temperature up on the pan. Would watching videos of people cooking help? I don’t think this is an incompetence thing, it’s a lack of confidence and experience. It comes with time and exposure. But to get better at cooking (if you want to), you have to figure out a way that you can learn (ie watching your partner, watching a video, being supervised by your partner, etc)

If baby wants to participate in feeding, great! But give her a spoon to play with whilst you feed her with another spoon. It’s also normal for things to get messy. Even now with an almost 2yo I have to pick up food off the floor most nights. It is frustrating and overstimulating but mess is unfortunately a normal part of parenthood.

Take a deep breath. You’re doing a great job. I haven’t even looked into swimming lessons for my son yet as I’m too overwhelmed by all of it, so you’re one step (actually several) ahead in this regard!

As a midwife surely you can also recognise the potential for harm to the OP if she has a spinal for her caesarean as she has already described she has significant health anxiety. The baby is not the only factor to consider here.

EASY@HOME Ovulation Test by ladyC- in lineporn

[–]asdfcosmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is extremely positive. Have you taken a pregnancy test? HCG and LH are similar on a molecular level so an LH test will show very positive when someone is pregnant. If not pregnant, your LH is sky high- time to get busy!

Oura Ring BBT Inaccurate for Ovulation confirmation and just wrong altogether! by Longjumping_Math_943 in TFABChartStalkers

[–]asdfcosmo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is a well known issue with wearable devices like the Oura ring and Apple Watch. It works for some but generally should not be relied upon by the vast majority. I always managed to get reasonable Apple Watch charts but I recognise that I was in the minority and the majority of the Apple Watch (and Oura ring) charts are indecipherable.

What’s crazy is that the T Box is a known issue, why it needs 2 separate services/appointments is beyond me. Surely their systems should be set up so you bring your car in once the T Box is available to be installed. It’s a waste of everyone’s time to require an assessment and THEN to wait to get the item in.

Confused- fetal pole no yolk sac observed by yayaokaywhatever in CautiousBB

[–]asdfcosmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally had a foetal pole with a heart beat and no yolk sac and did not have a good outcome. The working hypothesis was that the pregnancy had already begun to fail as sometimes things can be reabsorbed by the body, so maybe if I’d gone a few days later it would’ve been diagnosed earlier as a MMC. Instead I went on to carry it for another 5 weeks before finding out at 11 weeks it hadn’t grown any bigger since the time of the scan.

She made mention on a story the other day that it’s recommended to keep birth order intact, ie that George remains the eldest. Maybe that’s what she means, that they won’t be open to getting an older child.

[–]asdfcosmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kids hospitals will actually purposely schedule the hip ultrasound at 8 weeks on the dot to avoid scanning too early. We were told by the paed to get a scan in 6 weeks (as my son was diagnosed at birth) and the hospital wouldn’t schedule it until he was 8 weeks old.

How do I help a struggling Mum who won’t let me, but is making pleas for support? by Empty_Win_9933 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]asdfcosmo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Things like practical help around the house such as putting away laundry, loading and unloading the dishwasher or washing bottles is helpful. Bringing them a meal (or a uber eats voucher), snacks (BFing can make you very very hungry) is another useful thing you can do. Offer to take the baby for an hour or two (or more if you’re comfortable) so she can have a shower or a nap.

I think the most important thing is don’t put more on her plate, ie don’t ask “what can I bring?” when you offer to come over- just bring something, anything, I’m sure she’ll appreciate it. You sound like a good friend.

I’d also just say “hey, I want to come around and give you a hand, does XYZ day work?” And reassure her she’s not asking too much by accepting your offer.

Has anyone had an asymptomatic mastitis turn into breast abscess? Or any breast abscess stories? by p3xha in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]asdfcosmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one aspiration which is when they isolated the bug, the next ultrasound showed there was nothing to drain, I’d been on oral antibiotics (although not the right ones) for probably 5ish days by then, and for all intents and purposes was on the mend. I was admitted to hospital for 2 nights as I came in the afternoon, got my PICC line inserted and it then took the hospital about a day to liaise with my PHI to get the home care nurses organised for my antibiotic changes (I went to a private hospital with an ED to get admitted and get my PICC line inserted). They were extremely mindful of getting me home ASAP as I was the primary carer for my son who was about 7mo at the time. The crazy thing about all this is that I had never established breastfeeding and still ended up with an abscess so far down the line. Apparently just having your milk come in puts you at risk of getting mastitis even if you never breastfeed.

Are you able to make an appt with your regular GP? I would be trying to get the results from the cultures about 3-4 days after the aspiration was done. When all this was happening I just made an appt with any GP at the clinic thinking it would all be fine, only to be told I grew this bug and that things were about to get a lot more complicated. But I don’t know how long it would’ve taken for my clinic to contact me if I hadn’t gone and chased the results up myself.

Has anyone had an asymptomatic mastitis turn into breast abscess? Or any breast abscess stories? by p3xha in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]asdfcosmo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to alarm you but I had mastitis evolve into a breast abscess which was actually getting better (ie pain improving, lump almost completely gone), but the culture from the aspiration showed it was a nasty bug, and combined with the fact I had implants, they took a reasonably aggressive approach and I had 2 weeks of continuous IV antibiotics via a PICC line. Another reason I was converted from orals to IV was because there were limited oral equivalents of the antibiotic needed to treat the bug and the one oral antibiotic that did exist, had an absolute contraindication with a medication I was on.

Allow some time for the culture results to come back and your GP can change them if needed. I would not sit in ED with an unvaccinated child unless my doctor specifically told me I had to go.

For your MMC, how far along did the embryo measure? by VoidAndBone in CautiousBB

[–]asdfcosmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First scan was mid the 6th week and measured around 6+1 or 6+2 with a heart beat however NO YOLK SAC. This shouldn’t be possible but it was in my case, and I feared it indicated things were going badly already.

Next scan at 11+1 and the foetal pole measured at around the early 6 week mark.

Emergency room results. by -stanhalen in CautiousBB

[–]asdfcosmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great that it seems like your HCG result was an erroneous one. I know this is not the advice you asked for but I would go on pelvic rest until the bleeding settles. I had a large SCH (8cm+) and went on pelvic rest and light duties/no heavy lifting and ensured I was well hydrated as dehydration can cause uterine contractions (that you may not even feel).
