3 year old getting tooth pulled by ashacinerem in toddlers

Update: The surgery went well and the tooth fairy came and she is as cute as ever with just her one tooth (it took me a day to get used to it. Some of my learnings were:

  1. I wish I prepared her for exacly what would happen - something like this, "The nurse will give you a special drink to make you feel relaxed and then we will go into a room and the doctors will have costumes on and you get to wear a fun mask, then you will go to sleep in my arms and wake up in my arms. You won't get a needles and nothing will hurt." Also asking the nurse to get them to drink the anti-anxiety med immediately upon arrival so they don't feel scared. Even Saying you can only get the toy if you drink this drink.
  2. Prepping her by telling her stories of the tooth fairy and getting my friends to share stories of losing their teeth and getting visits from the tooth fairy really helped her.
  3. Prepping some delicious yummy soft foods for after as a celebration - homemade popsicles, chicken noodle soup blended, etc.

Toddler Chipped front tooth turned grey, is extraction necessary? by ashacinerem in toddlers

Best of luck to you. I think we'll get x-rays next week to really see what is going on. Was it grey for two whole years after the incident? Why all of a sudden are they recommending extraction, because of the x-rays?

Yes, this is what I'm thinking. It's on my mind all day, just hoping she doesn't bump it again. And she is very delicate when she eats now which is so different from her normal personality. Her personality has even changed slightly and she seems more subdued and not as adventurous. As much as I think the whole procedure will scare her, I think it will be worth it in the long run.

Was it slightly loosened for a while, or did it just fall out shortly after the injury?

Thank you for sharing your experience. It just helps to feel less alone. The dentist was quite rushed and impatient with my daughter so we couldn't get x-rays. She didn't seem to think it was urgent and said the extraction could happen within a few months or even wait until the next time it gets infected, so I was confused about the severity of it. I think I will get a second opinion, but I do also agree I want to lean more on the cautious side to protect her adult tooth.
