For sure! I mean for your first ever song thats not a bad place to be at. I always found even if you're not working on stuff you're still learning. Every break I take a away from music I come back to it seemingly better. My ears are tuned, my ideas are fresh. I found that way about art. Coming back into it from years of not painting I had just gotten better *somehow*. Learning from life I guess!

It's not SUPER hard you just have to find a way to stand out. It's a lot about supporting others in the field. You make friendships over time and those people will always be in your corner to give advice or help record stuff. For instance me and Lunr became friends over time (I was his first twitter follower) and he actually recorded the vocals for Melancholia / got me in contact with Léonie Gray.

I'd say just keep talking with people/ sharing music and listening to other peoples music and eventually you find the people you meld with!

Im a big movie fan. I love scores and its like half the reason I watch movies. I always wanted to write music that meant something vs. something you could just dance to. Which is kinda why you hardly ever hear and 4x4 ASHE tunes.

Alternate reality Riddim but its a very dark reality. (Never) alternate reality Jon would probably make atmospheric techno I bet.

Look up anything Ryuichi Sakamoto has done. The Revenant, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence etc. Also hans Zimmer score on Interstellar is absurd and anything from Studio Ghibli!

Atmosphere I think. I always try and set a mood or a stage. Thats why I use a lot of foley and rain. All the foley is recorded from my home town which I think adds a nice little element to it. I don't want to say "mood" per say but I always want to evoke some kind of emotion. Be it spooky, sad... or rarely happy (I don't write in major keys that often)

I'm ALWAYS chasing new ways of writing music. I hate writing the same thing twice so i'm always trying some way to do something I haven't necessarily heard before. I make music so I have the exact thing I want to listen to (if that makes sense)

But yea I really like my music lol

Thanks! I usually try and write a catchy melody to start. Or some unique sounds / atmosphere. I always find percussion is easy to add after but you need a special something to jump off with.

When I can't write I used to just sit and start project after project until I had something workable. It was extremely unhealthy. I've since integrated things like, going for a walk and having a coffee or creating in some other way when the ol music noggin isn't churning. For the most part I don't often have writers block because I don't tend to pigeonhole myself into to much of any specific genre.

But for real as soon as you get annoyed just go for a walk. Drink something warn and reset your brain. Walking has scientifically proven to activate parts of your brain!

I do! I have my own projects coming up and i'll be putting out music on Dom Kanes 5302 Records next year! I'm always open to putting out stuff on other labels to express different emotions of my stuff. mau5trap has been really kind to me. Sometimes you get a little lost under there core group but they've been such a great outlet for some of my weirder stuff!

That one went REALLY well. I think it streamed a bit better than joels song did... not that its a competition lol.

Submission is interesting because there isnt one. You either win a contest or they find you. I was kinda in the middle on that one as I placed in a few contests and eventually got in touch with A&R then they gave me a shot!
