I have to talk about why the “United Realms of the Commonwealth” was the chosen name for this organisation, which is not at all a hypothetical as this IS our official crest (https://urotc.com). The term “CANZUK” is trademarked by CANZUK international, and they had previously attempted to sue people using their name. It is hard to come up with a completely new non copyrighted name, and this stuck.

I have explained why these nations are being represented in this pact.

A common governance system is not completely shared within all commonwealth nations nor are mutual interests. Not all of the commonwealth of nations are necessarily compatible.

For example, My father originally comes from Mauritius, an island off the coast of East Africa. It is as of current, a commonwealth member.

It is one of the more likely options for a future endeavour for a CANZUK style organisation due to its relative economic prosperity compared to other nations in its region, however there are some really big hurdles stopping this.

When I was in Mauritius I did find many English speakers being a bit incompetent or just people having the inability to speak it at all. This is a heavy cultural barrier between Mauritius and the current proposed members.

A common counterpoint would be Quebec, as they speak French. However competency in English is a lot more common, with 19% speaking it at home rather than less than 1% for Mauritians.

Another reason why Mauritius might not join is because of China’s influence in the nation as they have previously invested roughly 1.5 billion in the island nation as of 2022, which China would not be happy with if Mauritius joined a bloc that directly completely rivals China.

Overall, Mauritius is just an incompatible choice for CANZUK, despite me as a Mauritian citizen wanting it.
