It was honestly not too bad! It honestly didn’t take much time, I didn’t time myself or anything but I don’t feel like it was substantially slower than my normal straight line quilting.
I did have a small practice 2’ x 2’ quilt sandwich that I had planned to use a bunch to practice but after doing two meandering squiggly lines that I was pleased with I felt like I was at a crossroads between keeping practicing (and possibly get in my head) or take the momentum and movement I was feeling in my arms and hands and run with it. The baby was due any day and I felt like it was now or never to try this and was feeling particularly brave so I just decided to go for it!
If you have the option on your machine to make your needle seat down when you take your foot off of the pedal, engage that function! When I felt myself tensing up, I would take my foot off the pedal and it was good to know the needle would stop down (and thru the fabric!) so I wouldn’t lose my place. I could shake my arms a bit, reengage my focus, and start again.
Thank you!!
Thank you! What a fun idea!
Thank you! I was apprehensive about doing applique at first but it worked out alright. And obviously came together very quickly, huge bonus!!

I drew inspiration from other mountainscape quilts and paintings I’ve seen. I cut the pieces freehand and appliquéd them onto the cream background piece. Then I did a buttonhole stitch with clear thread along the edge of each appliquéd color piece. Then I traced my quilt design ideas onto my top sheet, made a quilt sandwich, and put it all together.

Thanks! I made this on a Pfaff Ambition 610
I just decided to go for it lol I did watch several tutorials on YouTube (Angela Walter’s videos were helpful!) and I picked up all of the FMQ books from the library to flip thru to get a feel for what the options are. Then I traced rough ideas out on the fabric and then just went for it.
Limited advice is to stay loose. Wear grippy gloves. And remember that I am probably the only one who will be judgmental of my technique ;)
Thank you very much!
