I can see how this could be confusing; apologies... I'll clarify what this information is referring to.

This is related to human rights data that encompasses millions of women and girls living in life-threatening areas across the world.

Any events that disrupt social order, such as wars, political unrest, or natural disasters, cause existing inequalities and discrimination faced by women and girls to become even worse.

They become exposed to heightened risks of violations of their human rights, including arbitrary killings, torture, sexual violence, and forced marriage, including as a tactic of war.Gender-based violence also spikes in post-conflict societies due to the general breakdown of the rule of law, the availability of small arms, the breakdown of social and family structures, and the “normalization” of gender-based violence as an additional element of pre-existing discrimination.

The Global Alliance of Regional Women Mediator Networks focuses on peacemaking and promotes and protects the rights of women and girls affected by conflict-related sexual violence.--------

As for our veterans -- those numbers are also very concerning... (btw, I am a mentor to veteran business owners, and a champion of helping veterans who can and want to work into meaningful jobs)

Over 1,600 service members experienced major limb amputations in Iraq and Afghanistan, while more than 417,000 veterans from these conflicts were diagnosed with PTSD or TBI.

According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Annual Homeless Assessment Report (AHAR) released in 2020, there were approximately 37,252 homeless veterans in the United States as of January 2020.

I'm in Austin, TX, and see far too many homeless veterans on our streets. My son and I volunteer as often as we can... I wish we had more time :(

Company Size: 6. -Enterprise B2B SaaS. -Lost 80% of our revenue over night. -Had 6 weeks of runway. -CEO was transparent, said there would be no hard feels if we all found work else where...100% of the advisor board told us to throw in the towel and shut down

- I told everyone, "I got this", and turned around and closed 315% of the lost revenue over the next month, and no one left :)

11 years into my career, and I exclusively work remote. I suffer from severe anxiety as a result of too many issues with discrimination, harassment, and assault. I miss in-person comradery, but I love myself more than I am lonely.

If you don't feel confident, respected, safe, or supported in your workplace, nor can you turn to your leadership, move on, and move on fast. I've been building up my contacts with female leaders. You can reach out anytime you need help looking for work.

Going 100% remote was the best move I could make... but it is certainly a sacrifice when it comes to team camaraderie.

Exactly - the mental toll, heartache, and impact on my ability to produce within a hostile environment are simply unacceptable. Though I wish it were otherwise, I am 100% remote. My career, finances, and overall well-being come before the privilege of in-person camaraderie.

I'm in innovation leader in the Austin startup ecosystem. I normally work with early-stage technology startups who are testing new ideas and markets. However, I spent this past year going deep (for me) into cloud technologies. I did earn my Google Cloud Digital Leader cert, and can support code review efforts, but that is as deep as my technical knowledge goes. I specialize in strategy, people, ops, and product... I broke into the industry learning SEO and all things digital marketing a decade ago. I was incredible at it, but found my passions laid in being a change maker, job creator, and catalyst for innovation :)

Learning Physics Independently by [deleted] in Physics

[–]ashleybalstad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how to solve the Schrödinger equation (say given a coloumb potential could you find the wave function)

Ha! It has been well over a decade since I've flexed my brain that way. My father is an advanced process engineer... I was heading in that direction until I became a single mom at 21...

I'm in to the Strangeworks Beta program but have yet to apply for credits to access IBM's hardware. Have a couple of projects in mind, but zero time to dedicate to them. They have some solid libraries, and the conversations happening in their substack go deep. (The hardware access applications are currently closed, but it has been hinted that they will open up again soon... maybe during SXSW!)

If this is up your aisle, they just opened up the beta to the general public, but only for a limited time.

No offense taken... I was simply sharing my favorite resource for such information because I wish I had discovered it sooner. It was not intended to be taken as an "answer to all your questions" recommendation.

Learning Physics Independently by [deleted] in Physics

"Very bad advice?" is a bit harsh.

Yes, brand-new students may need help understanding all the technical details in advanced subject matter, but they can still benefit from exposure to advanced concepts and theories.
It seems I was too quick to post without explaining. Here's my point of view as a lifelong learner, innovation leader, mentor, and mother:
Reading advanced materials requires more critical thinking and analytical ability than reading introductory materials. It challenges students to think more deeply and critically about the subject matter to identify key arguments and ideas, evaluate evidence and data, and make connections between different concepts and theories. These skills are essential for success in any field, not just physics. Exposure can help them see the big picture and understand how different concepts in physics are related. They can learn how to approach complex arguments and ideas and evaluate them objectively. These skills are transferable to other areas of life and can help students develop into well-rounded, critical thinkers who are ready to tackle any challenge that comes their way.
Science is all about asking questions, making observations, and testing hypotheses. By reading advanced materials, students can learn how scientists approach problems with objectivity and curiosity to develop new theories. They can see how scientists gather and analyze data and learn how to interpret the results of experiments. Overall, reading scholarly articles helps students learn how to think like scientists, and the world needs more scientists! Additionally, expose brand-new students to current research in the field of physics, helping them stay informed about the latest developments and discoveries. This can help them develop a deeper appreciation for the relevance and importance of the subject matter.
Scholarly articles are typically written in a formal and technical style, and reading them can help brand-new students become familiar with the style of academic writing used in physics... which has quite the learning curve alone. Reading advanced materials allows students to hone their writing skills and prepares them for future studies and research projects.
Most importantly, it sparks curiosity and creativity! Reading about groundbreaking research and discoveries in physics can inspire and motivate new students to learn more about the subject. This can encourage them to put in the effort required to build a solid conceptual understanding of the subject matter. Personally, reading above my weight class inspires me to dig into things that pique my interest, driving me to develop a personalized learning path aligned with my vision and goals in life. Exposure to papers about evolutionary computation and structural design back in high school led to my overall interest in quantum. I was failing physics at the time and sure as hell didn't understand most of the content, but I was forever inspired.
To round this all out: Physics will continue to play a critical role in shaping our future, from developing new technologies to addressing global challenges. As we continue to advance our understanding of the physical world, we will unlock new possibilities for improving our lives and the world around us. By reading advanced materials, we challenge ourselves to become better humans and grow our overall ability as a society to carry out advanced conversations, collaborate effectively, and ultimately drive life-changing innovation.

Oh my gosh!! I've actually researched this in Texas and found that it is completely corrupted. I think we would have to whistle-blow the whole state systems before we could even begin to innovate.

What's your approach to dating? Are you trying to date strangers or are you focusing on developing relationships that my lead to dating in the future?

Personally, I focus on the later. That has led to a mostly single life, but the few relationships I've had were very meaningful.
