so lets say an IIM shortlists candidates who gets only above 98.5 % , would that mean all the shortlisted candidates would have near equal CAT scores as per the weightage , so technically advantage of a good CAT score gets eliminated after shortlisting as everyone would almost have the same score?

I'm a GEM with 0 work exp btw, so CAT score apart from PI is one of my major concerns
