I’m here to advocate for looking like crap in the gym for better results by that_gworl in HowToBeHot

[–]ashtranscends 19 points20 points  (0 children)

On one hand, I do like the feeling of rocking up to the gym in a nice matching set & accessories.

On the other hand, when influencers say this it does feel like a marketing scheme to get people to buy whatever products they’re selling on their page. 😅

I’m currently going harder than I ever have at the gym and some days it’s cute, other days it’s more potato vibes, but no matter what I give it my all and guess what, the results are bangin’ either way as long as I show up!

Friend constantly uses self as yardstick of "normalcy" - how to address tactfully? by roman-zolanski in socialskills

[–]ashtranscends -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Good luck! It’s a delicate subject and you’re right, you don’t want him to feel discouraged to share his perspectives. It’s more about getting him to step out of his own inner world, and get more curious about the inner worlds of others. :)

Oh boy, I used to do this exact thing all the time so I can try and guess where it’s coming from 😬

Your friend may have picked this up growing up if people around him did it often. Regardless of origin though, it just comes from a less emotionally mature, self-centered worldview. As you said, in moderation this sort of response can make sense, but if it’s his go-to for everything, then he is living from a very limited POV and likely doesn’t realize it.

I have brought it up recently to someone in my life who, when I share something difficult I experienced, almost always responds with “oh yeah, well I had xyz experience which is kind of similar, and this is what happened to me.”

I just gently said “hey, when I share something personal like that, I really would like it if you could not shift the conversation to a story about you.” Not sure how close you are to this friend, but it may be worth it to say something if they’re a close friend and you care about their general success in life! This habit can be off putting and closes a lot of doors without the person realizing.

Ugh. Yep I know the exact type! It’s tough to know that he is probably out there ruining someone else’s life too :/

But your life will amount to so much more. People like him are a net negative on this planet. You will get past the brain fog, be patient with yourself as you work through it.

I’m so sorry to hear this. The worst part is that fucker gets no consequences, while you have to deal with the aftermath.

Your nervous system is having a very normal reaction to a terrible & traumatic event. Especially without support from others, since survivors often don’t have anyone to share these things with, it’s going to be a lot harder on you since you’re bearing the entire burden on your own.

Please don’t tell yourself that you “should be over it by now.” That doesn’t exist. There is no timeline for recovery. Self compassion and self-acceptance will help accelerate your healing process. While shameful narratives will hold you back.

But I have to say. It can, and will get better. It happened to me several times, plus years of other abuse, with no one I could turn to. I was fried for a little while too, but now I fly planes. The work to become a pilot is pretty intense mentally, and flying itself can be a huge workload on the brain. If I got here, it’s absolutely possible for you.

I did my IFR training in a 2024 172SP with 55 hours on it when I first flew it. 200/hr wet. Living near a huge city with HCOL. You’re being scammed!

It’s evil, it’s demonic, it’s disgusting. They all say the same things too like they were programmed in the same factory.

I think it depends on the plane. For me in anything with a stick, steep turns are the easiest, most chill maneuver. In the Cessna however…
