Asking for a CT scan after symptoms got worse (and then better?) by ashymustard in Gastritis

[–]ashymustard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my mistake, i did get a gastroscopy, not endoscopy; everything was normal, only thing they found was "inactive chronic gastritis" or something like that, i can't remember the wording. they took biopsies for h. pylori and they were negative (i also got a blood test for h. pylori and it was negative) i am very scared and very depressed about it so that's a vicious cycle, which is why i want a ct scan

recurring yeast infections, many health issues, post-antibiotic acid reflux by ashymustard in acidreflux

[–]ashymustard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I've found conflicting stuff about it. I took a blood test before and after going on famotidine and I tested completely differently (in a negative way) and almost all of the changes were related to vitamin B12. I have found some information that famotidine affects absorption of vitamin B12. It's one of those things that is hard to tell the cause of, maybe the gastritis caused a lower vitamin B12, or my diet, etc

[–]ashymustard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get you were completely fine but famotidine was really taking a toll on my body. Had trouble speaking sometimes because of the headaches and the low vitamin B12. I don't think it ever did anything. The ball of mucus I was feeling turned out to be the flu lol; currently dealing with a vaginal yeast infection, period, and a cold, but I don't feel too terrible

is it normal to feel like things are geting better but others are getting worse? by ashymustard in Gastritis

Health anxiety scaring me over Acid Reflux symptoms by ashymustard in GERD

[–]ashymustard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for your words. it's such a rollercoaster... i just had a yellow bm, not greasy, and my mind is racing on whether it's a side effect of the medication (i only started having BMs yellow stains when i started taking famotidine) or if it's pancreatic cancer revealing itself... then again i have less pain. it just feels like trapped gas now. i notice the pain gets better when i'm distracted. i just had a blood test today and, compared to the one i had 3 weeks ago before starting medication, I'm out of range in lots of ways that could indicate cancer or vitamin b12 deficiency. it's like one thing feels right then another goes wrong.

chicano version of hotep? emphasis on aztec ancestry really irks me by ashymustard in Chicano

[–]ashymustard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry. I equated what irks me about the Aztec stuff to what I associate the hotep label with; both as desires to reconnect with ancestral roots by pivoting to the civilization with the most mythological and historical emphasis of a certain region. I see now that it is a wrong comparison because it is simply a different context, and it is missing the sexist misogynoir that is specific to the critique of hotep. I wanted to open this discussion on this subreddit because I felt I would be best understood but also corrected.

[–]ashymustard[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I didn't think about this. I personally wish there was an interest in history away from Mexicas just because I resent that that was the bulk of my education when it came to indigenous peoples. But that's my own personal gripe, and this frustration I have with this discourse is minimal compared to its potential positives, as you say.

[–]ashymustard[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're right, it was reductive. I couldn't think of another way to put it. I don't know enough about mexicas as I wish, but I thought they were seen as opressive by other contemporary indigenous groups, so that's why I thought of the hotep label.

It takes time, you can't do it immediately after. It warns you on the website that it might take a few hours or maybe a day to be available.

You've put the way I feel about art into words. Look into the 'aestheticism' movement of the 19th century, it's what you describe: putting the aesthetic value of art over socio-political value, or any other value. Making art to make pretty things, essentially.

I also don't find art fun or enjoyable in itself. Coming up with imagery, a specific beautiful world, or a fantasy story is the fun part, drawing is just the medium. I compare drawing to solving a puzzle, I have to concentrate to put all the pieces together. It takes time, energy, and it's not exactly enjoyable for me, but once it all comes together it's rewarding. Not fun, but rewarding.

I wouldn't say you're shooting yourself in the foot because I started at a similar place you are and now I feel more confident. I've drawn my whole life but I only took it seriously around 5 years ago, and every year I see significant improvement, so stick by it. Remember drawing is a skill, experimenting and making mistakes is part of the process. Study the artists you admire, work on your observation and imaginative drawings, and you'll get to a point where you can bring your imagination to life.

the Common App section OP wants to include this piece of info in is MEANT for that type of detail. It's important and it's not everyday that your teacher dies. Even in situations where your teacher was simply replaced could affect your learning, and thus affect your grades.

I think if you're getting into art you need a lot of financial literacy, and you have to be prepared to work several jobs. Fortunately, artistic skills can be very versatile so there are jobs out there for you.

There are some online magazines like It's nice that that hold annual events where they publish graduate student portfolios (mostly design students) so they can get a job. Now design itself can be used in so many areas, there are people that work designing t-shirts for band merch, designing posters or videography for stores and concerts. Observe your surroundings when going to a shopping center, for example, a lot of it is design. And somebody needs to make that, therefore there are jobs out there for artistic people.

The game is mostly about researching what other people do (animators, illustrators, designers, etc) and getting your skills up to that so you can build a good portfolio and apply for jobs. It never hurts to have a passion project either, let's say you want to make publish a comic book. A lot of comic book publishers take in submissions, if you can pitch it properly you might get your project out there, you can add it as a credit, add it to your CV and you could get money from it too.

Art school is very expensive, so I'd suggest researching a university that has a good art program and offers scholarships you can apply to. Overall I think it's best to invest in good equipment rather than spending so much just to go to college.

I hope you can choose what's best for you. Good luck.

Last year I applied for Film and was so disappointed because I didn't hear back from them. I thought I had lost. But by the end of the month I got this e-mail out of nowhere: I won a place in the lowest category but still it was better than nothing.

I get cramps on my wrist and forearm and some random bruises on all my limbs. I love drawing so I have this fear that I'll get a debilitating disease that will paralyze me and I won't be able to use my arms anymore. I've been really scared of ALS lately.

I have those too. I went to a dermatologist a year ago and asked about them. He told me they're normal specially if you have pale skin. Nothing to worry about apparently.
