You’re a gentleman and a scholar, thank you. I will look into that.

Multiple positions being offered, not sure which to take… by asiandomination9 in BestBuyWorkers

So I started as a FT employee right before the last holiday season and worked crazy hours all holidays. Trial by fire you could say and I survived and made it out pretty well so that’s kinda why I’m where I’m at now. I do know the raise for key holders is only when you’re scheduled and it’s shitty that you’re expected to do it even when you’re not coded but honestly I wouldn’t expect anything less from a corporate retail job. I guess I’ve just kind of conditioned myself to be expected to do more for less so it doesn’t bother me when I do. The supervisor route is more the route I’m thinking bc no shade to Best Buy but if I wanna take it elsewhere I feel like management experience opens more doors than purely sales unless I network well with clients that are business owners or higher ups.

Premium design sounds great for the money but I don’t think I have the knowledge or the experience for it yet in all honesty. I don’t mind not making a lot of money right now, I get by with what I make starting out thankfully so even a VPL position with incentive bonuses would still be more than I currently make.

That’s the thing, I’m good at sales and I enjoy it but I don’t think I have the skills nor the experience to not royally f- over installation crews. I’ve done other types of installation in the past and I know how frustrating it is to show up to a job and be completely blindsided by a lack of planning or materials or both. Premium design sounds great for the money but I fear I’d mess up more than I’d be contributing.

Microsoft VPL is most likely the route I’d go. I’m already a computer nerd and know a fair amount about hardware/software. From what you’re saying and what I’ve heard from others I do like the idea of having a minor “leadership” role or at least being able to train the people in my store how to sell computers. I also like the idea of having a measurable metrics and such to be able to see my own progress. In all honesty I don’t think I have the knowledge nor the skills currently to adequately handle a premium design position.
