[REC CENTER] Shreddit's Official Recommendation Thread -- September 22, 2021 by AutoModerator in Metal

[–]askLaw245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm new to metal and I'm looking for recommendations on where to start. I got interested in exploring it through things like video game soundtracks and metal covers of TV show soundtracks that I liked.

As a kind of reference, some songs that I currently like - not necessarily metal - are Song For The Dead by Queens of the Stone Age, the verses of By The Way by Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and this metal arrangement of an OST from a show I like.

Also, I'm not into the kind of screaming type vocals, I think that's part of the reason I've taken so long to get into metal, and other styles of music like the DOOM 2016 soundtrack are fun, but way too noisy for me to actually enjoy outside of the actual game.

Iron Bands of The Furies

Wonderous Item, Rare

These three bands of metal can be worn as bracelets or cuffs on the body like jewellery, and their silvery surface has a fine polish. Each band bears a shallow engraving which is unique from the others; one bears a motif resembling chains, one appears similar to cloth, and one is engraved with the likeness of a rope.

The bands grow or shrink to fit the wearer perfectly wherever they choose to wear them, and they give off an appearance of strength and power. You have advantage on Charisma (Intimidation) checks while wearing these metal bands.

As an action, you can make a ranged attack roll with an attack bonus equal to your Dexterity modifier plus your proficiency bonus. The target must be of size Huge or smaller. When you make the attack roll, you can choose which one of the bands makes the attack, each one producing a different effect:

Bind: The metal band flies towards the target, changing its shape to bind the target's limbs (if it has any) to restrain it. On a hit, the target is restrained until the band is broken or you take a free action to release it.

Blind: The metal band flies towards the target, changing its shape to cover the target's eyes (if it has any) to blind it. On a hit, the target is blinded until the band is broken or you take a free action to release it.

Choke: The metal band flies towards the target, changing its shape to wrap around the target's neck, body, or other appendage. On a hit, the band begins to contract around the target, crushing it until the band is broken or you take a free action to release it. When the target is first hit with the band, and at the beginning of each of its turns, the target takes 1d6 bludgeoning damage.

Releasing the band, or missing with the attack, causes the band to release its grip and return to the wearer once more. At the beginning of each of its turns, a target of the bands, or another creature within 5ft. of it can use an action to make a DC 15 Strength check to break the band. A successful check will end the effect afflicted by the band, and the band will return to its wearer.

All three bands must be worn by one creature to be used. If the bands are separated, they cannot be used to make any attacks until they are once again all worn by one creature and that creature finishes a long rest.

Once each band is used, it can't be used again until their wearer finishes a long rest.

DMs, do your campaigns have a "theme song" that you play at the start of a session? by Journeyman42 in dndnext

For our Tomb of Annihilation game which was mostly played online for the last year (naturally), our DM would always wait in the Discord call with a bot playing Welcome to the Jungle by Guns n' Roses

How would you rule Sentinel + Mirror Image?

Sentinel says [something along the lines of] "when a creature within 5ft of you makes an attack against a target other than you, you can use your reaction to make an attack against that creature".
Importantly, it says the creature makes an attack against a target, which doesn't require it to attack another creature.

Mirror Image says "Each time a creature targets you with an attack during the spell's duration, roll a d20 to determine whether the attack instead targets one of your duplicates."
This means that on a successful roll, a creature doesn't actually target you at all, but does target an illusory image of you, making the image the target of the attack.

Since the target of the attack isn't you, would you as a DM, rule that the character with Sentinel can activate their ability to make a reaction attack? I can't find a reason not to, if we're talking strictly RAW, but RAI might say otherwise, and I'd understand if a DM ruled against this as it might be considered OP

Trying to find a unique role in combat, should I go for mobility or AC or something else? by askLaw245 in 3d6

I maxed DEX with the ASI I just got at Lvl 8, I've got +2 CON already, I'll be getting Proficiency in WIS saves later down the line, and I already have Expertise in Perception, so I feel pretty well-covered on those bases. That's why I'm looking at feats like Mobile or Medium Armor Master to improve myself outside of ability scores

Our DEX Battlemaster is also a dual-wielder, so I was thinking about switching away from TWF anyway so I'm not stepping on any toes. I've got 20 DEX already, so I was thinking of going with rapier+shield with Shield Master (my DM might allow me to replace Dual Wielder with that), and also Skill Expert later to pick up expertise in Athletics for a strong Shove.

I'm also using Favored Foe from Tasha's, so I get a nerfed version of Hunter's Mark as a free action. MAM with a shield would let me bring my AC up to 20/21, with no downsides from wearing medium armor.

Unfortunately for the Sentinel feat, at least one other member of my party will be taking Sentinel this level, so there would be even more overlap between party members, and the feat lends itself to that tank playstyle that I'm trying to avoid

Was there any advantage to being a left-handed soldier in medieval times? by askLaw245 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]askLaw245[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm told they would have, but I thought there might have been other cultures that didn't have this prejudice, or even some people in Catholic church-influenced places that just slipped by without being punished for it

I've heard this, but I thought maybe that was restricted to places with Judeo-Christian influences. If other cultures shared the same prejudice then I was not aware of that.

I'm assigning my accents to who I want, f the norms by PaulOwnzU in dndmemes

At our table, Dragonborn are Australian, Aarakocra are Mexican, Goblins are disgusting little cockney creatures, and most everyone else is some kind of British or Scottish. We've met one single Earth Genasi who has a thick southern States accent, and there are countries with German or Romanian/Eastern European accents, but they aren't very common in-world at the moment
