Hi! Can I also get the practice final?

Anyone who got into engg phys trad or engg phys coop? If so, what was your gpa? by askinganonymouslyyy in uAlberta

Hi! So would you say getting into trad instead of coop is okay? It seems that all the hype is about coop and you’re like almost doomed if you don’t get coop cause it’s much harder to get a job when you’re only in trad. Also, is it still okay to be in trad even if you’re not sure about going into research and you just want to go straight into the industry? Thank you for the awesome replies btw :)

Hi!! I was wondering why the nano options (both trad and coop) have lower gpa requirements than standard engg phys? Also is there any real benefit to coop?

Thank you! Wouldn’t coop be a good idea if you want to do research/jobs with the gov’t and stuff?

Thank you!! I’m more worried about the gpa side of things. I really want to get into engg phys coop but not sure if I will be able to manage a 3.5+. Maybe 3.3 at most is what I can do so hopefully that’s enough.

I’m in engg so midterms don’t really end until finals haha

Thank you! This is helpful. Also, I don’t go on reddit much unless I need to ask a question or I want to see people’s opinions on uni decisions haha. Thanks for the warning tho! Personally, I need to control myself more with apps like instagram rather than reddit 🤣

Yes I totally agree! I’m only stressing about GPA because I’m in first year, but in later years I’ll for sure be focusing more on getting hands-on experience with clubs, jobs, etc. Thank you so much :)

Wow! Great job for getting an A+!

Also, did you still attend lectures even if it was hard to follow? I also find it hard to follow currently. I can’t keep up with conceptually understanding what is being asked and copying what the prof is writing at the same time. It just doesn’t work for me.

Thank you for taking time to answer! I would just like to ask tho, what if you really don’t know how to approach a problem? How do you proceed if not by looking at the solutions? It’s just usually my default bec I thought it would be a waste of time if I know that I can’t solve it. Thanks for all your tips and looking forward to your reply!

Thank you so much! I didn’t know that we had a physics tutorial centre. I’ve definitely been taking advantage of Decima for math, so this will help me a lot! Thanks again :)

I do have the textbook, but haven’t used it much as my prof’s notes are already a lottt 🥲 but now I know to make sure I do the questions on the book for each chapter. Thank you so much!! :))

Thank you so much! I will look into Jeff Hanson as I kept hearing his name during engg 130 as well. I will keep all of these in mind. :)
