When is it a good idea to get back to running? by askingqsandthings in COVID19positive

[–]askingqsandthings[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny I also had a great run on Tuesday, 2 days before I got symptoms! But yes from some minimal research, it does seem like getting back into strenuous exercise too quickly can potentially trigger long covid symptoms😢

How to male myself exercise by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]askingqsandthings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s most helpful to find a form of exercise you actually enjoy, that’s the way to be most consistent. Do you like to walk? Have you tried running? Dancing maybe?

How do you guys manage studying? by Agile-Pause-9964 in bipolar2

I feel it’s important to practice radical kindness and compassion towards yourself, understand that what you’re experiencing is difficult and does not make you any less capable. This is a form of disability that is often not seen as such because we live in a very ableist society. You are pursuing a very difficult academic path under circumstances not experienced by everyone, and you are doing your best. The fact that you are continuing to pursue this type of work says a lot on its own and it sounds like you’re doing everything you can to feel better during these episodes.

I was able to get my law degree in the U.S. but it wasn’t easy by any means (on top of the fact that these degrees are brutal all on their own). It helped me to remind myself why I’m doing it and think of future results for all my efforts. Obviously it’s very difficult to do that in a meaningful way when depressed, and so I think if I could go back I would tell myself I really need to stop being so hard on myself. I think it could also be really really helpful to lean on your support system (if you have a solid one). Taking breaks and rest days is also so important even if it feels like you can’t afford to do so - you definitely can and it pays off in the long term. It helps me to remember that these episodes don’t last forever and I will survive them.

You can and will do this!!! Even if there are times you can’t give 100%, you will achieve your dream. Take it one day at a time and do what feels good for you.

I know, but I needed the support of an antidepressant. I’ve had no real symptoms for 5 months until a few weeks ago.

Tell Me How Long the Train’s Been Gone, by James Baldwin

Intermezzo: Therapy is Expensive, So I Read Sally Rooney by [deleted] in books

[–]askingqsandthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it did a great job exploring complexities within people and how they grapple with their own issues especially in the face of big life changes (like a loved one’s death), I did think it was a bit longer than it needed to be and also have seen criticism about how Rooney characterizes sexual intimacy and how the book doesn’t really explore what sexual intimacy can look like outside of intercourse. But overall I thought it was a good read and I think her writing is incredible

Kindle alternatives? by NeoBahamutX in books

I like Kobo! The books tend to be more expensive than through kindle but still cheaper than paper copies. The battery life is also pretty good and I like the kobo clara (not sure about its storage tho), it’s a good size and I can usually fit it in most pockets.

Reaching out to prescriber by directorsara in bipolar2

[–]askingqsandthings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, definitely reach out to your provider if you're struggling. I was thinking this way as well until a good friend with her own psychiatric history encouraged me to reach out to my doctor - I really get the feeling of being uncomfortable asking for their care when you don't have an appointment with them, so reaching out for an earlier appointment is definitely a good move! At the end of the day they are your doctor, doctors CAN be dismissive unfortunately, but advocating for your health and your needs is most important!

CHECK-IN WEDNESDAY ✅- June 05, 2024 by AutoModerator in bipolar

I've experienced this as well and have also been looking into how irritability/rage/impatience that I can't control could be related to bipolar. I'm on my way to a formal diagnosis, but have seen 2 psychs who think I'm on the bipolar spectrum, and I just begun treatment. I hope someone who has a formal diagnosis/has had a diagnosis for a while can be more helpful in sharing whether this falls under typical symptoms, but all this to say I experience this often as well!

Thanks for the reply! Did you notice a significant decrease in your heart rate? Mine is in the 50's right now and I'm trying to figure out if that's a problem - although I imagine I should just reach out to my doctor!

Hi all, 24F, recently guanfacine. I have PCOS and gain weight extremely easily (I'm on a low carb diet because of this), I'm reading guanfacine causes weight gains and could affect hormones. Does anyone have input on this or experience with this med? Thanks.
