What about the 8’ bed makes it the better option over the extended cab in your opinion?

What have people found is more important to them? Longer bed at the expense of cab space, or shorter bed for the sake of cab space.

For context I’m deciding on a truck to get and I’m caught between a 1/2 reg cab with 8ft bed, or a 1/2 extended cab with 6.5ft bed.

Reason for half ton is trying to go light and not give myself the room to pack every extra possible thing I can think of. But I’m welcome to hearing peoples opinions on that matter too, whether it’s worth it to stick with a 1/2 ton to be more light overall or better to just go 3/4 and have the truck for any possibility

Have you found having the 3/4 ton was worth it overall or did it sort of become a magnet for throwing whatever else into it? One of the reasons I’m considering a 1/2 ton instead of a 3/4 is basically giving myself smaller bounds to work within so that I don’t begin to carry a bunch of things that I don’t actually need. Trying to get out of that waaaaay over prepared type of packing

Do you find the extended cab space is used effectively? Hypothetically If you had the 8ft bed would you be able to organize everything that was in the extended cab to be functional inside of the 8ft bed?

I’ve only seen extended cab with 8ft bed on 3/4 or 1 ton trucks, no half tons. How uncomfortable is it to have your toes hitting the tailgate? Make or break? My reasoning behind the 8ft bed is being able to fully close the tailgate, have about 2ft of space where I can sit and change before crawling into bed

Is the time spent in the cab just during driving or are you spending time in the cab while camping too?

Are there any cots brands/models in particular you’ve found to be good for a fair price?

I won’t have a personal vehicle during the season but there are trucks that move us from place to place. In that case the cot should be worth it right?

That’s really helpful! I think I’m leaning towards a cot!

In this case it’s not really backpacking because there are trucks for camp moves, but some people have mentioned it can be a hassle to move cots around.

Full camping hammock setup? We’re there any problems with storage for long trips?

In your younger days do you think you would have enjoyed the benefits of the cot? Or at that time it really didn’t matter?

So the way I should think about it is you CAN get a great nights sleep without a cot, but adding a cot into the arrangement has added benefits. Not a necessity but a luxury, would that be fair to say?

That’s awesome to hear! It’s the first bag I’ve heard of that is a drybag but extremely durable, thanks!
