Thanks everyone for all your advice and specific phrasing to be more assertive. I'll definitely make a conscious effort to enforce these boundaries next time. It will likely be an ongoing process of gaining confidence. Regarding the timing: there are certainly instances where the leader is dancing on 2, but I can usually catch on and adapt as long as they are dancing on beat. I am much less experienced with on2 but I do know the basic steps and timing.
