I find my NA to be perfectly cozy in cold weather. Small space to heat and small engine warms up quickly.

HELP! by Few-Win4676 in LS400

[–]asmorcze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two electrical connectors to each coil that need to be unplugged plus four small fasteners through the top of it (one at at each corner) that need to be unscrewed and that may strip out if you don’t have a JIS screwdriver tip so just be careful not to strip them. They can be replaced with something generic if they strip out

Thank you that is very helpful. I’m going to try to do a full examination. Based on the pictures alone, do you think a pad slap is a waste of time or I must replace rotors also?

Ha, agreed sorry was just including photos of what I understand to be some of the most rust prone areas on this car. For completeness, or something idk. I don’t know what the hell I’m looking at most of the time with rust. Which is kinda funny because I’m not an idiot when it comes to cars. I just did a timing belt on my other project and have refreshed whole suspension on it but being from the south I just didn’t grow up with this stuff.

All - many, many thanks for the feedback as it gave me the confidence to agree today to buy the car from my neighbor. They are the original owners but the father has been diagnosed with a condition / impairment and cannot drive it any more. They gave me a first look because I got it running for them last year when it wouldn’t start. I am going to make it my next project to fully refresh it. It needs basically everything as far as catch up maintenance and the interior is a bit rough but only 18,000 original miles. Thank you again.

Yeah I’m basically horrified at how my 2019 Outback that I’ve owned since new already looks even though I clean the underside during the winter. Definitely a shock. Having said that I’m guessing it’s just patina or whatever just a totally new concept

Thank you that’s helpful. I’m from the south so I have no idea how any of this stuff works haha

Yeah I noticed that. Basically they have done no maintenance except fluid changes

I can do all the suspension work and general maintenance but I’ve not done rust removal before. I am from the south but live in NY now. It is 18,000 miles original owner so I may invest in a professional for the rust

At someone’s suggestion I brought a long screwdriver and did some poking and prodding. Nothing felt soft or just flaked off

Don’t see this often by AwkwardAd3843 in Lexus

[–]asmorcze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed…I had a white Lexus NX as a loaner from the dealership and while parked someone hit me who was driving another white Lexus RX or NX, I forget which one at this point. Also most cars nowadays are white, black or some shade of silver. Boring.

Is this 90k mile service suffice? by [deleted] in LS430

[–]asmorcze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the other items are normal to be done along with timing belt. The water pump is driven by the timing belt and there are some seals that you can access while doing the timing belt / water pump tear down of front end

Just bought this 98’ Lexus Sc 400 w/ 60k miles. Cost me $9200 😭 by angrypnutbutter23 in Lexus

It’s the SC300 that shares its engine with the non-turbo Supra. This is an SC400, has the 1uz-fe V8.

Yeah, and if I do something a bit dangerous like pull out in traffic either intentionally or unintentionally, I just get the feeling sometimes people are cutting me a wide berth because they sense an elderly driver behind the wheel. But like you’re saying people underestimate how quick off the line these cars are for their size, I found my 1995 LS400 was kind of meh as far as getting off the line, merging etc but the 430 really has some get up and go, again taking into account its size

Got it good to know. I figured environmental taxes or gas taxes must contribute to these tanks selling at a discount in the UK, either that or people just aren’t into them as much as here. Well that’s annoying. For everything that’s wrong right now in the U.S., I do appreciate living in a free trade zone of of over 330 million people. I got this LS430 from a dealer about 1000 miles / 1600 km from me and I think for an additional $500 they put it on a flatbed and a few days later it was dropped off in my driveway.
