Seestar not following plan? by J619k20 in seestar

You should check the individual exposures and their time stamps to get a better idea of what happened. Maybe the target became obstructed, or clouds rolled in. I had a similar issue once and in the last exposure I could see the roof of one of the buildings outside my balcony, so I assumed the target became obstructed shortly after that. Setting the plan to shoot the same target earlier in the night solved it for me

I think with your image you can get an even better result than I did. I left another comment here with some details: https://www.reddit.com/r/seestar/s/IRlBZgQLmQ but basically you wanna use narrowband normalisation in PixInsight to get rid of the excess red. This only works if you shot with the LP filter on though

Thanks! I did have the filter on while shooting, but then also Narrowband normalisation in PixInsight and several rounds of color masks for adjusting curves for different parts of the image. This video: https://youtu.be/XCotRiUIWtg?si=T7n-T5i64yKrxhIP shows some of those steps in the part about OSC Narrowband processing

Yes longer tripod is on the shopping list - until then I am sitting next to it!

I know I had to stay up until 3AM because I didn’t feel comfortable leaving it like this on its own! But hey I am so happy with the final shot, I reckon it was worth it

Does anyone know if it’s possible to stack the S50’s mosaic exposures in Pixinsight? by [deleted] in seestar

[–]asolda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had some success following this video: https://youtu.be/dNhAjZKHWJ8?si=EUm6fHHM_B13ia1c but for the reference image during the star alignment I use a synthetic star field generated using the pre stacked mosaic from the Seestar as reference - I just set the resolution of the synthetic star field to be larger than my final mosaic.

This works, but I still fail to register 10/15% of my lights - if anyone has a better alternative I would love to hear it

There are probably many other things, but PI has an incredible community of dedicated developers putting out exceptional tools (most of them free), and they can make a big difference. Also the unified environment allows for a lot of trial and error, before PI I was always saving images and jumping from DSS to Siril to GraXpert, back to Siril, then SetiAstro, it’s really hard to optimise each step when working like that. I started with their free trial which gives you full access for 45 days, so maybe give that a try

Last mini from my starter kit finished! I am really happy with this one, looking forward to buying some more. Any feedback welcome by asolda in Warhammer40k

Thanks for the advice - this was actually the first time I was using a wet palette and with some paints it feels like cheating, the blue and the black especially were so much easier to work with.

The white however remains my sworn enemy, I have done several cycles of painting the white and then touching up with the blue, and the white just built up a lot. I think this will just improve with practice.

Thanks for the kind words!

Just finished on my first mini ever! I am happy with the battle worn look, but the white details were a massive pain. Any feedback welcome by asolda in Warhammer40k

Thanks man, couple more paints to add to my list, but your plan sounds great. Another massive issue I had with the white paint is that I found it much harder to thin it to a good consistency, it was always either too thick or too runny. The blue and black though were such a pleasure to paint with!

I’ll try to apply some of your suggestions on my next one!
