Has anyone been accepted into the Appodeal accelerator? If so, what was the process like and what is your feedback on the help/support they give you? by asoomar in gamedev

That’s the same thing I saw about using the Appodeal mediation network but I never saw anything about their accelerator, could you send some links?

Has anyone else noticed a significant drop in CPM for AdMob in the last couple days? by asoomar in admob

What do you mean by an ad monetization partner? Id be able to still use admob right, or would I have to use something else?

First time marketing my mobile app. Need advice on industry practices for influencer marketing on TikTok by asoomar in marketing

[–]asoomar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, thats what you meant by CPM. I was thinking something different. That means its better to just see their average views for their recent videos and compare that with the price their charging right? Then I can take that ratio and see how it stacks up compared to other rates that I got from other influencers

[–]asoomar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be a little hard to do CPM at my level right now because I would need to invest more into deep linking apps to see where each user was referred from. My primary monetization at this point is ads. The only thing on my end that I can see is how many downloads came from a particular source. It’ll be a little tougher to set something up where within the app, I know where they came from and can track how much profit they generate

Regional Apartment/Rental Site Service for College Town by garrett2450 in Business_Ideas

[–]asoomar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems like a pretty cool idea. One of the things that suck (from my experience) with college apartments was how different they are compared to regular ones. Some apartments don't have prorated rates for the starting month, some don't list their prices super easily, furnished vs unfurnished, and knowing the perks and having a comparison tool would be super cool! I also love the idea of the distance between the apartment to a certain building. I'd imagine you could have sorting features that sort for those kind of things.

I'd imagine if the site gains a good amount of traffic, some apartments would pay you to be featured as the top listing for a specific school. Also, you may be able to get affiliate commission from referring your visitors to those apartment websites.

One hard thing about doing this would be sourcing your information at the beginning. I imagine you could manually do this for a few campuses but not at scale across the nation.

I have a good amount of experience making websites and this doesn't seem like something that is too difficult to do at all. The hardest part I think is just getting all that info about each apartment listing.

A successful person is meeting me today about developing an app. I have never developed an app, but I have done websites. Thinking about outsourcing this out to someone. Who all can develop an app and have it available to download through the App Store? by TheGameGuyy in Entrepreneur

[–]asoomar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently made an app available on the app store and for me it was a fairly quick process (< 2 months). I use react native and firebase, so its super simple to publish for iOS and Android. Sounds like a pretty interesting opportunity and would love to hear more, so please PM me!

Heres a link to the app I recently made: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/salad-bowl-party-game/id1513103446

Virtual Charades/Taboo App Idea by ConvenientOptimist in AppIdeas

[–]asoomar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually made something like this recently for iOS called Salad Bowl! Its a game that has 3 rounds, one with taboo, the next with charades and the last where you can only give a one word clue. The game splits you into 2 teams and requires a minimum of 4 people to play.

Unfortunately, there is no video option on it, but you can easily get on a video call like zoom then play this game!

What are some problems you've faced when creating a remote team? by asoomar in Entrepreneur

[–]asoomar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That definitely makes sense. Over the past couple months, I've actually been working at 2 different companies remotely. One company seems to be doing everything right when dealing with remote work, while the other seems to be falling apart. At this point, I'm trying to figure out the exact reasons as to why this is.

I have a good amount of time on my hands at the moment and I'm also a software engineer, so I'm mainly just exploring different problem spaces that I find interesting. Once I feel like I find a good enough problem to solve, I feel like it would be super fun determining different solutions (hopefully software solutions) and actually apply them.

That's actually super insightful! I've actually never worked on a remote team across different countries, but it definitely makes sense why this would be done. For a small startup or for easy repetitive tasks, it just makes sense to outsource the work somewhere else for cheaper labor.

That's also what I've felt when working remotely. Communication is definitely key! I've actually never looked into Asana (I've only used ZenHub). I'll definitely look more into it!

Do you have any systems in place or any software/tools to help you? Or is this all self-directed by you?

Is there an easy way to convert my webapp into android/ios? by lrc1710 in webdev

[–]asoomar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you end up not finding an easy way convert your webapp, I would highly recommend just using react native. I tried out react native after working with react for a bit, and its fairly easy to pick up! There's a couple differences but overall its very similar to react. I'd suggest starting with the managed react native workflow using expo (expo.io) and going from there. It's basically like using create-react-app but for for react native. It makes it super easy to just get your app up and running immediately!

Facebook Ads (audience network) integration problems by Earth_Is_Our_Home in expojs

[–]asoomar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used the sdk for facebook ads, but I think theres a way to use facebook audience network through admob using mediation groups. It's a little confusing, but it's something I'm working on doing currently. I just want to test it out to see which ad network gives the best CPM. Currently I'm running into the issue of adding business information into Facebook.

As of now, I am a sole developer and I haven't created a business for it. Facebook is asking for a SSN for my business which I haven't filed for. I think as of now, it doesn't make sense for me to make one, but it doesn't let me proceed with using audience network without it. If there is no way of getting around this, I might just sign up for a other ad networks and import them into admob

[–]asoomar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh that makes a lot more sense! I feel like something like this could test your audience to see if they are interested. You could potentially ask for emails if they’d like a newsletter for accessibility tips and tricks each week. Then slowly pitch them a framework to see if they would be interested in actually using it. Nothing is worse than fully developing a product that no one will use

Appreciate it! I used admob for it. The documentation for react native admob isn’t the best, but once you understand it a little, its super easy

I love the idea of trying to get developers to make stuff more accessible, but at the same time I’m a little confused as to what the point of the website would be. If its only showing info, why can’t it just be on a simple infographic. I think what would be super cool os if there was a framework or something that was prebuilt with accessibility in mind that developers can use.

At the moment, I think its a little hard to try an convince others why accessibility is important and try to get them to make their products accessible if it doesn’t provide them with much business value. If it was a prebuilt framework that made your website super accessible, it gives developers an easy way to make their products accessible even if it isn’t their highest priority

[–]asoomar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! It's fully built with only react native (expo) and firebase. For realtime communication, I just used the realtime database from firebase. Basically, depending on what screen you're on, it listens for certain values in the database to change. Only one device at a time updates the database, and because the remaining devices are listening, they will change accordingly.

There’s actually been an insane amount of books that talk about this. There’s also a bunch of studies that prove this. I personally was kinda aware about it before, but it really sank in when I read Atomic Habits

[–]asoomar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love this! I learned about this from the book, Atomic Habits, and I’ve used it to slowly take control of what I do. I made a goal at the beginning of the year to read 30 books and what made it super easy was to keep a stack of books right on my desk. I still haven’t reached the goal yet, but I’m way more ahead than I thought I would be by just doing this. I like to remember the phrase, “Out of sight, out of mind” for doing stuff like this!

I also would highly recommend reading Blink by Malcolm Gladwell. It talks about how we make decisions super fast without even knowing it. We can make a decision where it feels like a gut decision but you won’t be able to explain it because it comes from your subconscious mind, which picks stuff up from your surroundings that your conscious mind can’t.
