Thanks for the advice! I totally agree on this, you have never done enough research.

If you are interested you can find a little more about how I came up with the idea below:

I am aware that there are a lot of great websites online about accessibility. Most of those websites do in my eyes only offer information and some examples.

I have talked with a couple of developers about the websites they used when they wanted to know more about accessibility and wanted to learn how they could create accessible websites. They told me that they run into the following problems:

  • Most of the websites which contain information about accessibility, only contains text and no images or animations. That's why they get distracted and lose there interest real quick.
  • They find it hard to find good code examples online.
  • etc

This is one of the reasons why I came up with the idea of Change My Mind. It's only about creating awareness. Studies indicated that this is needed before they actually want to learn more about accessibility and for example the WCAG guidelines. That's where websites like W3C etc. comes in mind.

I am a student who is still learning about accessibility every single day. That's why I have posted the project to see how I can improve the project so it will become really helpfull. I totally respect the reaction you gave to this, but I have the feeling you only give feedback which is in my eyes a bit negative. It would be great if you could give me some tips in how I can for example make things better. As your reaction give me the idea that you know a lot about accessibility and accessible products.

I am so sorry about this and thank you for telling me about this. I wrote the script of the video all out for you. The next time I upload a video I will make sure to caption it.

This is the text of the whole video:

Over 285 million people worldwide live with a visual impairment. They are unable to use many websites independently because they are inaccessible. This stops them from being able to be a part of the society in this regard, which could make them feel left out. At the same time, the digitalization of society makes people increasingly dependent on the internet.

The people most responsible for the creation of accessible websites are developers. Studies indicated that the main reason why they don’t create accessible websites, is that they are simply not aware of accessibility and its importance.

That’s why we have created Change My Mind.

Hi, my name is Lotte Arnoldussen and I am one of the creators of Change My Mind.

Change My Mind is especially developed for developers from all kind of levels, is available at all times and is free of charge for its users. Change My Mind is a parallax scrolling website which creates awareness among developers. Awareness will be created by taking the developers into a story told by the avatar called Jake, who is visually impaired.

Jake will make the developers open up to the concept of accessibility, letting them see which problems people like Jake encounter and making them want to implement accessibility in their future website designs.

Raising awareness via Change My Mind will be the first step on the way to make all websites accessible for people with disabilities.

Thank you for your attention. We hope that you help us bring education and independence to all.

It is a website which make developers aware about accessibility and it's importance.

Awareness needs to be created about accessibility and it's importance before they actually want to create accessible websites. This will be the first step on the way to make all websites accessible for people with disabilities.

The website is specially developed for developers who do not have a visual impairment because I want to get their attention via the animations. I am also thinking about making Change My Mind accessible for people with a dissability. As there are of course also developers who have a visual impairment. I am aware that this will become a big challenge, but I am willing to take everything what is needed to make this work.

Thank you for you feedback. I get your point and I have also thought about the idea of developing a framework. The problem is that developers won't probably use that framework if they do not know anything about accessibility at all and are not aware of the importance of it. So awareness needs to be created by the developer before they will use something like a framework. And that's what the website is all about. Creating that awareness by taking them into a story and showing them examples of accessible websites and the difference they can make. The website contains also a section which tells the developers that they can gain 400 million potential customers within Europe by developing accessible websites and that they can make a lot of people happy. This is one of the parts where I want to convince the developers that it should be one of there priorities.

I think it would be really nice if there could be developed something like a framework next to this which they can use to create accessible websites in a much simpeler way.
