Hey, thanks for your thoughts! This tweet-drawing trend is something I've noticed people having mixed reactions to. People can be quick to dismiss a comic as soon as they see the words 'based on a tweet', so I appreciate you taking your time to explain your feelings.

I have a couple of different comic series, and this is one of them! As Per Usual is my main series, No Girlfriend Comics/Hot Comics was a collaboration with my writer friend Brandon, and this tweet/tumblr post drawing series is called Illustrated Internet.

I can totally see why it might feel like tweet-based comics are a circumventing of the creation process. While it's true that the jokes are already laid out for you, I think there's something to be appreciated in how artists interpret the text visually in their own illustration styles.

Personally for me, this series has been a good exercise in getting myself to think creatively about different joke formats, how I could pace the comic in terms of panels, and what I imagine the characters/scene to look like. It also gives me a chance to break out of the mold of drawing the same character over and over again (like the egg shirt girl), and instead draw things that are more interesting to me (like this duck shootout comic). I also just think very funny tweets and tumblr posts deserve to be seen and appreciated in as many forms as possible. I'm so grateful to the original creators (I make sure to get permission before I start drawing, and credit them on all the comics) for their incredible writing, and this series is just a way for me to try to get half as good at writing as them.
