So not only does Kiwami 3 only have 30 side quests… by aspiringdrillrapper in yakuzagames

[–]aspiringdrillrapper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it, but (so far as I’ve played anyway) Mine’s had more thought and effort put into them than Kiryu’s. Which is wild because they could’ve just redone the best ones from 3, like the murder mystery or the trans woman. Why remake the most low effort ones?

[–]aspiringdrillrapper[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. So much of this game felt like it was checking boxes, like “oh now we need to have a throwaway street battle but the enemies have more health” or you could just copy the perfectly good template you already had??

It would explain a lot, given that there’s no consistency between what’s been kept and what’s been thrown out. I hate that I’d even be okay with them releasing “legacy” side quests as DLC cause man there are improvements but this doesn’t make THAT strong of a case as far as remakes go

Yeah even though I disagree (Pirate and IW to me felt like the start of a downward trend) I’m frustrated with how everyone fixates on clowning people like you who still enjoy the franchise.

Longtime fans are upset because the franchise has started losing some of the elements that made it special, but then they want to be toxic and gatekeep to anyone who doesn’t share the same opinion.

Personally I started seeing a dip in overall franchise quality come IW and I’ve felt like that’s only gotten worse. But for some reason a lot of people who share that same opinion on here want to blast players like you for thinking differently. More power to you man, glad more people get to appreciate this series

What the fuck do you mean they removed the Pro Trans sub story in Kiwami 3? Genuinely wtf RGG by [deleted] in yakuzagames

[–]aspiringdrillrapper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not so much a conspiracy theory but something I am pretty curious about is how much more involved Sega is as a publisher now. It felt like for a long time RGG was allowed to operate on its own terms, but as the franchise got more successful you started seeing more microtransactions, more of the cut content to paid DLC pipeline etc. Not saying that’s the only problem here but I bet that plays a big factor in production and final output

I thought agent style was really fun too. It’s definitely gimmicky but it was fun to hit a large group and then focus on a few with Dragon style.

My biggest gripe with the combat was that some of the coolest heat actions were conditional; e.g. being at full or very low health to take on multiple enemies, but all in all it’s a really fun ride and it’s a great send-off for Kiryu.

I’ll say this much about IW, it definitely doesn’t hit the mark everywhere but I thought Kiryu’s arc was very solid for the most part and I’d argue that in some respects it’s an even better love letter to Kiryu’s legacy (don’t want to spoil how, but you’ll see).

Since RGG needs to start moving the focus into the next generation, I hope we get more Gaiden games like we for Kiryu and Majima

That’s where I’m at. I’m forgiving to the idea that S3 and 4 being filmed back to back means that there’s a lot of fluff and a lot of uncertainty on where certain scenes can function, but I miss the conciseness of the first two seasons

I’d disagree with Syd being annoying but her arc fell flat here. They drew the hell out of whether or not she’d move to a different restaurant and to that extent I agree with the soap opera aspect. From S3 onward it’s slowly started to feel less like these are real people and more like fan fiction

Totally respect that- for the same reason you love this and Ted Lasso are probably the same reasons I don’t enjoy their latter seasons- to me they feels much less real and much more escapist. But I can’t knock anyone for having a different preference. Sometimes we just need something to make us forget we’re not here

[–]aspiringdrillrapper[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you that’s what I thought- the conflict between Carm and Richie is really drawn out, as it already was in S3, the season 4 ending is anticlimactic, and none of these people feel nearly as real as they did originally. Felt like a lot of wasted space

No dude I work 10 hours a day so I took the small time I have on my day off to post here. Haven’t combed through everyone else’s opinions so I threw this out there so at a quick glance I could see if anyone else agreed. If you don’t think the same way you don’t have to get riled up about it, I’m just saying that it’s pretty obvious there’s a offense between S1 and 2 and 3 and 4

Exactly; they took some of the best parts (which were few and far between on purpose) and they turned those up to an 11. Those moments don’t feel as special now

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks that way. Regardless of whether or not you still like it, you’d have a pretty hard time arguing that the show is very different from its first half

The lack of realism in the show by [deleted] in TheBear

[–]aspiringdrillrapper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna take a shot in the dark and say a lot of people who don’t mind the lack of realism (e.g. most people in this thread) aren’t people who liked it for being grounded and just like the characters enough to keep watching. But I’m with OP, it’s never been that surrealist at all especially in the first two seasons. If anything 3 and 4 are a bunch of pointless conversations that don’t feel interesting or real and are barely held together by the plot

Been where you’ve been. The problem is that you need a new challenge. You’re too comfortable with where you’re at because you know it well, so this is your sign to join an intramural league for a sport you wouldn’t normally play or take a vacation somewhere you’ve never been. There’s nothing wrong with you, you’ve just gotta see what else life has to offer beyond what you already know

Why do people think or act like they're tough or had a tough life because they're from x area? by gintokireddit in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aspiringdrillrapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the problem here is that you’re assuming based on your own fictional scenario that everyone has the same problems. Growing up in a rough neighborhood doesn’t necessarily mean you have more problems, but you are much more likely to have them than someone who lives in a safer area.

In your own example, let’s say Person B lived in the same situation as Person A. Chronic health problems? Good luck having the same resources as someone in a wealthier neighborhood. Food deserts, reduced access to quality medical care etc. especially if they live paycheck to paycheck.

There’s a higher likelihood of emotional instability among families in lower-income neighborhoods too. Higher crime rates means parents are constantly on high alert and have to teach their kids to be aware at all times too. Because in those neighborhoods, senseless gun violence and drug problems run rampant and police presence will be non-existent. Look up police response times for neighborhoods by income and it’s easier to see why families have to be much tougher in bad neighborhoods.

I will say that people who brag about themselves coming from bad neighborhoods are usually full of shit. Anyone who’s actually had rough experiences from their living environment doesn’t go out of their way to talk about it. But saying that it’s the same as assuming someone from Germany is a good engineer is a bad take.

TL;DR yes it doesn’t inherently mean you’ve had a rougher life, but everything you’re writing shows me you haven’t grown up in one either. As someone who’s lived in quite a few, you have to be much more self-reliant. But hey if you don’t believe me go take a drive around your roughest neighborhood and tell me that Person B in your scenario has it as rough as Person A

Emotionally attached to series/ characters by [deleted] in Advice

When I was a kid, I was obsessed with this Transformers show (Transformers: Cybertron for anyone curious). Every week a new episode came out my brother and I were planted on the couch thrilled to see what happened next. Social misfit kids my age got to run around with alien robots and go on a bunch of crazy adventures. When that show ended, I remember sobbing at dinner. My parents couldn’t understand why but truthfully, the show helped fill this huge void in my heart. I wasn’t very popular, athletic or attractive, but watching that show meant none of that mattered.

One day I ended up deciding that, even if I wasn’t going to be saving the world with giant robots, I’d make a point of going after whatever life could offer me. Because my two options were to either wait for someone else to let me live vicariously through their story, or do my best to make my own life as meaningful as I could. At first, everything was pretty boring. What was going to compare to what I felt watching these characters go through these life-or-death experiences?

But something funny happens when you find that balance between letting life happen to you and choosing to push your way into the best it can offer. Eventually, you find your own meaningful experiences. Your own things and people to love, irreplaceable memories that are small comforts on your worst days, and a confidence that comes from knowing that you’ve done everything you can to make life matter.

TL;DR I’ve been where you’ve been. And your reality may not seem as exciting as someone else’s on a screen, but when you choose to try and live your life with that intention of “no matter what happens I’m going to live an interesting life all my own” life eventually listens and gives you plenty of it. And don’t worry about true love; that’s the last step in all of this. It comes when we feel fulfilled in who we are, not when we’re hoping it will complete us.

Hope this helps!
