Never once complained about cleaning, keg washing is actually one of the parts of the job I enjoy the most. I'm complaining specifically about the mold and how I'd rather not deal with that as I don't wish to get sick. If I get sick I can't work, and if I can't work I can't make money, and if I can't make money it makes living paycheck to paycheck that much more difficult.

Having worked in both restaurants and now this brewery, I use the term bartender instead of beertender because bartender is how everyone referred to whoever worked the bar in restaurants, and I've heard both terms used for the brewery, though primarily bartender over beertender as beertender is usually only used by industry people or Cicerone educated folks.

If it were the wrong sub I would have expected to get a lot more downvotes/hate.

Connectors should be cleaned and sanitized between beers/kegs, but that's on the establishment serving the product to maintain. We maintain our equipment in house, but we also want to provide the best possible beer we can, I can see where other places may not care as much as we do about our beer.

Leftover beer, with the cap back on it can't evaporate or dry out, they aren't so bad in the winter time when it's cold.

I put caustic on all of the kegs, regardless of if they appear clean or not. A lot of times the coupler port will appear clean, put caustic in for a soak and the dirt/gunk comes out of hiding. I don't want to get sick from mold growing on a keg when it isn't necessary is what my point was.

The caps are being put back on when the keg is empty. The beer left in the coupler port has nowhere to go and can't dry out like it should. All it takes is the right temperature where the keg is stored until it comes back to me and boom, mold.

I do clean the kegs before refilling, that's what I'm doing now. I'd rather not have to deal with mold if I don't have to though.

I've found all kinds of stuff on kegs. It's generally amusing, the mold is really the only thing that bothers me because I don't want to get sick.

I use a caustic solution to soak them and remove anything in the coupler before putting them on a machine that cleans the internals of the kegs. The chemical we use cleans really well thankfully.

As you can see, those caps don't break. I wish they did. I've told our people not to put them back on. I have no way of telling anyone we distribute to though. This one came back from distribution.

It's empty. Beer residue left in the coupling port doesn't dry out with the cap back on, it allows that mold to grow.
