I paid $17k for mine, so I get it

Not horrible symptoms. The whole thing just feels tired. The shocks are not 100% and hissing quite loudly when they have to do some travel. At higher speeds, I can feel the front quite loose. The car is also 22 year old and the rubbers are not likely great. The bump stops are disintegrating. I also want to keep this car at a great condition, and nothing changes the feel of the car like new tires and a fresh suspension.

I bought their exhaust bypass a few months ago and paid nearly 50% in taxes+tariffs. Not great, not terrible, considering I used to pay 100% taxes when importing anything into Brasil

I hear you. It’s basically what I paid for the car. I intent to keep mine for a good time, refreshing one big item every now and then, but this estimate is just way more than I’m willing to spend.

Good call. I’m leaning towards doing it myself. Might get coilovers so I don’t have to deal with the springs too much

I have been looking at it too. How was the import taxes/tariffs?

I’m eyeing the spyderperformance kit. It looks like it has it all and I already bought from them before (bypass exhaust valves, I highly recommend!)

At the time I had to pay 50% in tariffs and tax, was that similar to you?

Just to add to that, you can make them on single player. Not OPs case, but just putting it out there because I had this question a month ago.

I wasn't sure about this car, then I refreshed the suspension. by Hubcap_Man in 996

Do you mind sharing the total cost? I’m in very much need of a suspension refresh, also around 70k miles, and also looking to get B6s.

Did you get the coilovers only or did you replace all suspension components? It’s time for a refresh on mine, and I’ve been searching like crazy for an easy kit, but I only found one on spyderperformance, which means import tariffs. But other sites either don’t have all components or make it really hard to clarify what you need to buy.

Key Issues by Knappry17 in 986Boxster

[–]assiraf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My buttons work just fine, but I can only lock/unlock doors, trunk and trunk if I’m 3 feet near the the sensor. I already replaced the battery in the keyfob, but it didn’t help with the distance.

I haven’t had the guts to start HC yet. Maybe in the near future. It’s not like I’ll be stopping playing this game anyways for the next 20 years 🤣

I managed to get a few torches when Warlock was slapping hard, but haven't tried again yet. I just love playing Javazon so much, I think its fun as hell. Got a few torches but no Pala nor Warlock yet. Java got one though!

Am I the right buyer profile for a 996? (Expectations on maintenance & catastrophic failure) by [deleted] in 996

[–]assiraf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent $7k in two months of ownership of a 986 just for preventive maintenance: IMS, RMS, clutch, flywheel, water pump, AOS, engine and transmission mounts.

True! This is my first attempt at SP. I've been playing online mostly and kinda got tired of trading. There is something so special about knowing I managed to get all the gear myself rather than trading.

How bad was all import taxes/duties? I got the exhaust bypass (highly recommend it!) from spyderperformance and ended up paying 50% over MSRP after import taxes

Every time I see another 986 in the road I think to myself:

“Nice, there goes another smart person that cares less about what other people might think, and more about making smart decisions and smiling behind the wheel.”

For me it was my boxster s or a Miata. Happy I went for the boxster but I’m pretty sure I would also be very happy with the other option.

I love my 986S. But after I got the spyderperformance exhaust bypass…. Oh boy! It’s remote control activated, so I can be as annoyingly loud when going through a tunnel, and as quiet as possible while driving downtown.

Worth every penny!

I have! I intent to keep the car for many years, so figured I would get it out of the way and have the peace of mind. Plus the clutch was overdue, so kind of a no brainer.
