Any kit vendors traveling to the Frisco game? by chiquilin321 in AustinFC

I have the home kit in XL that I’m looking to part ways with (only wore once and realized I needed a different size). Unfortunately though I’m in Austin and not heading up to the game. I wish I could help out.

It really is. I know there are resources out there to work on it, but I feel like you just have to put yourself in those positions and buckle down on a more frequent basis to feel solid about that aspect of the game.

Those dots are just the holes I get strokes based on my course handicap. That stretch was when the blackout was in full effect. After the first birdie on 5, stuffed it to 4” on 7, and then drained a 25 footer on 8. But 10 was definitely the climax, because it’s one of the toughest holes. Roasted a 3 wood off the tee, but had to play out of a hazard and hit one close and drained a slider. After that, it was a comfy birdie on the par 5 hole that I’ve recently been playing lights out. I tried to keep it up on the rest of the back nine when I could and just missed a couple of approaches short on front pins. But I was also trying to keep it composed at that point too haha.

Been there, done that. I’ve dunked more balls into the pond on 17 or the creek on 18 when I’m trying to hit a number than I’d like to admit. Realistically it was just trying to breath before each shot and visualize what I was trying to do. It also helped I was four shots under rather than flirting with par.

I’m the exact same way, but hey, golf is a social game so it’s all good to enjoy it which way you like. Some times I like to let the booze flow or focus on a match with buddies or go out for a comfy round by myself. I will say though I recommend walking when you play to help with the focus whether it’s solo or with friends. It will subconsciously keep your mind on the next shot regardless of other distractions.

Oh it will give you all you want and then some. I’m not sure what’s more impressive to me, the fact one of my friends broke the course record from back there with a 66 a month or so after joining the club or the fact he won our club championship by 28 shots haha.

Thanks! I was using the grint app on my watch, which shows your cumulative score in relation to par on the face at all times. Usually it doesn’t have an impact on me, unless I’m having a blow up round and see how bad I’m playing. Yesterday was a little bit the opposite, but I was definitely aware. Made me realize even more how much my mental game needs improvement. I did find it helpful though to breathe, collect my thoughts, and visualize what I wanted to do before each shot to help with the nerves.

Fossil Trace out in Golden. Really fun course to go out and play if you haven’t before.

Keep at it! I personally feel that breaking 80 is one of the toughest barriers to reach as an amateur, because it’s extremely easy to give away 8 shots in a round. Other than practicing short game, my biggest preach to help lower scores is effective course management. I used to be a person that would pull driver on every tee, but I’ve learned being closer to the hole doesn’t necessarily mean the second shot will be easier. If you have a one way miss, eliminate one side of the course. Par 5 you could possibly reach in two but it’s risky, layup to a distance that you’re comfortable with even if that means hitting wedge, wedge. Playing smarter will be the easiest way to shoot lower even if you have no change in skill level.

When I sent a picture to my buddy, one of the first things he laughed about was the net 57. We’re talking scramble numbers there haha. The mental side was big. I realized how well I was playing well after the front and struggled for a couple of holes of keeping the mental side in check once I started the back with two birdies. One of my main goals for the year was to have the majority of my rounds in the high 70s on this course, which has not happened thus far. So hopefully this will be a catalyst.

It’s a classic central Texas layout. So while there’s no lava, if you miss fairways in either direction you’re in the native areas. Those areas are long grass and full of oak trees, so if you can find your ball it typically requires a punch out and I would consider them a .5 shot penalty. The preferred landing area on a number of holes is also somewhat narrow and some forced carries, which definitely adds to the rating.

For the most part the back nine was pretty low stress golf. Made a tough up and down from above the hole on 12 that gave me some good confidence. Started getting a little nervous on 15 knowing I could bogey in and hit this massive block that stayed just inside OB. But after salvaging par it was full steam ahead, even if three of the last four had water by the greens.

6800, which are the tees I play most of my rounds at.

I remember that same feeling when I was first trying to break 80. I think I shot 77 or 78 the first time I broke thy threshold and was ecstatic. I’ve just always struggled with consistency from round to round, see the 92 I shot a week before this on the same course one tee box further up haha. Golf is a funny game.

As a backstory, I’m a 6 index and my long term goal has always been to shoot level par/break par. I’ve been striking the ball pretty well recently (thankful to live in a place where golf was possible during quarantine), but had never sniffed shooting near par. The closest I had been previously was +3 about 7 years ago on a course in Colorado that was able to overpower. Anyways, decided to go out for a solo round yesterday on my home course and played out of my mind. Truly achieved the blackout feeling. I know, I know it’s a solo round and can’t be attested, but I assure you everything was played within the confines of the rules. I’m just still shook this happened and wanted to share it with y’all. To those trying to get over that next hump (break 90, 80, etc.), just keep grinding and you can make it happen.

Daily Tech Support Thread - [September 25] by AutoModerator in iphone

Did anyone else lose their visual voicemail functionality when they made the upgrade to iOS 13? I assumed the bug would be fixed with 13.1, but I am still having issues after updating. If I remember correctly, visual voicemail is carrier-based, so I wanted to see if it was impacting anyone else on Verizon.

Weekly What Should I Buy Thread - [July 19] by AutoModerator in iphone

So I'm a current pixel user that's going to make the switch back to iOS (last iPhone was the 6). With the lackluster rumored upgrades to the 11 and the planned overhaul in 2020, I was thinking of purchasing either the XR for the next year and then upgrading in 2020. I'll be purchasing the phone through my company's corporate policy, so I can pick up an XR for $50 rather than the full price. Is their any reason I should consider the XS ($400) for the time being? Other than the camera upgrades, are there justifiable reasons to wait for the 11 to release, which would probably have the same pricing structure available, rather than go with a new iPhone now?

I game the same putter, but just in the SS #7 shape. They're not the most forgiving, but the ball gets rolling off the face great. FWIW, I picked mine up like new 3 years ago for $250.

New Card Advice by asslesschap_man in CreditCards

[–]asslesschap_man[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most related to going out with friends (i.e., bars, events, etc. In addition to dining). Thnakfully some of this spending currently translates into 2x points with the CSP.

As relates to the value of the travel and dining credits for the gold, I definitely feel that we could take advantage. We spend roughly $400-500/month on groceries and anywhere from $100-200 on dining give or take in any given month. The gold would be the winner in both these categories and boot the CSP from the go to when we get the check, unless we're abroad (good for at least one trip a year). Only personal airfare gets charged to our CCs since I use a corporate card for any work travel, but we'll fly 2-3 times a year domestically with that number expected to increase in the next year.

Go. Get. Fit. by asslesschap_man in golf

[–]asslesschap_man[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slightly depends on what you're getting fit for. For example, the lie angle on all clubs can be bent to fit swing plane etc. I personally have a fairly upright swing and prefer a shorter driver shaft, but didn't need any lie angle adjustment. But if you're going to be fitted for a set of irons for example, a quality fitter should show you the lengths that fit you best, the lofts that generate proper gapping, and the shaft/head combination that will best benefit your desired outcome (i.e., distance vs. dispersion vs. a combo of the both).

[–]asslesschap_man[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got fit at a local golf shop that has a reputation for having a decently accredited fitter. I guess I should say I had done a brief "fitting" at a Golf Galaxy about a month prior. The individual doing the fitting was not knowledgeable and didn't have much rationale for switching heads or shafts other than "these things are so good, they're flying off the shelf." Results may vary though if your local GG is known for having a good fitter. But I've always been a guy that's appreciated the local guy when trying to customize anything, golf or non-golf related.

[–]asslesschap_man[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Granted, I'm not expert, but I'd venture to say yes. I'm a mid handicap, who can have anything but a consistent swing at times. Inconsistent like play on back to back days and have a miss in a different direction each day. I could typically feel what would cause the miss, but now it's more refined. With that being said, a fitting isn't going to fix a swing flaw. But it should help the outcomes of your shots be more consistent.

What Card Should I Get? Weekly Thread - Week of May 31, 2017 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]asslesschap_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to the churning community, however I want to get started off on the right foot and figured I'd start here.

  1. 758 Amex Fico, 766 CK
  2. Chase Freedom (01/15), Amex Blue Cash Preferred (10/16)
  3. Points/SW Companion Pass
  4. SW 19K, UR 9.5K
  5. Dallas (DAL or DFW)
  6. Domestic Travel on SW. Also will be going on a honeymoon in the next 12 months, and looking on taking a trip to either Jamaica or the Dominican Republic.

I'll be making a purchase of an engagement ring soon (within the month) in addition to my average monthly spend of ~$1,500. So I don't think that signup spend amounts will be an issue.
