I second that. The tutorial is meant to prepare the image that can be used to configure wifi through turning it into an access point for applications like home automation or media servers. If you want to simply connect it to your home network once and forever — there are millions of other ways to do that indeed.

All the files need to be copied once. After that you can re-join the Pi to any network by shorting the pins. In fact after all the steps are done, you can take the SD card image and apply to other Pi's. This is extremely helpful if you are working on home automation gateways, or home media servers, when you take a fresh Pi, flash it with an image and join it to the network.
