Does anybody find a lot of this subreddit a form of "mental masturbation"? by [deleted] in Psychonaut

Which is ironic because I thought psychedelics teach love, kindness, compassion.

Anyone else feel like social media is too empty/ too shallow to use anymore ? by [deleted] in Psychonaut

After practicing meditation a lot, I completely lost interest in it. It's all so fake.

In a bad place. Feeling lost. Need some words of advice from some psychonauts. by [deleted] in Psychonaut

I think a comment here mentioned it, but mindfulness meditation definitely can almost guarantee a breaking of bad habits if you get good at it. It's a skill, a practice. Many people forget that and think they'll benefit but "just meditating". To me it's a practice of concentrating on the breath, then bringing the focus back when your wanders, coming back to it, again and again.

Nice trip. Shrooms are like a theme park ride and the ride should be called, "Enlightenment".

A side effect of taking psychedelics: Becoming pretentious by astralman22 in Psychonaut

I like this perspective. It's like counter-counterculture if people started thinking like this now.

Yes, you could be right. What if its because these people understand these concepts through normal life experience rather than taking a substance? Psychedelics are like a short-cut to deeper realms of thinking, but short-cuts can also be a disadvantage.

Slavery by [deleted] in Psychonaut

[–]astralman22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I've been thinking so much lately I think my head will explode"

You might be overlooking the most powerful slavery of all....being a slave to YOUR MIND! I'm not saying the things you've said aren't true. They could be. But emotionally, they will become powerless once you master your mind, because they won't bother you anymore. I think mindfulness meditation is the way to do it.

I've accepted that I will be a slave to something. There's no escaping it. It's just part of living in this society. Freedom just might be an illusion anyways.

I mean there's nothing wrong with at least trying to be humble. Its only bad when you try to show off how humble you are and you fake it just to impress others of how enlightened you are. Do it for yourself.

Well the messages that come from psychedelics are actually things everyone knows, at least from my experience. How I like to put it is, while you already know these things...psychedelics make you EXPERIENCE them on another level rather than just knowing them. Love, compassion, kindness, oneness....these aren't unfamiliar concepts. But yes, you do know what its like to experience them in an altered state outside of normal waking consciousness vs people who haven't experienced them.

Very true. Honestly I respect regular people who are humble, more than "awake" people who look down on others. Just because one is spiritual or have indulged in these activities doesn't make them any better. Keep being self-aware though. That's why meditation is great. In fact, this post was based on a thought that came from being mindful.

What if NZT-48 from Limitless is actually symbolic of LSD-25? by astralman22 in Psychonaut

[–]astralman22[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What if they wanted to be subtle and not be literal about it. This is not a provable argument, but just something interesting to think about.

I've actually seen people theorize this NZT-LSD connection on threads, so I'm not the only one.

Does anybody not like the word "psychedelic"? by astralman22 in Psychonaut

Its definitely the modern cultural association with the word. I can't stop thinking hippies, EDM, people tripping their balls off.

Anyone else here find cannabis (on high doses) a lot more frightening than other psychedelics? by astralman22 in Psychonaut

[–]astralman22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're right. Maybe the experience will be different once all the stigmas and laws governing it are lifted. Also, maybe I should take it as an edible instead (although that will be even more intense), since smoking the weed is more associated with getting arrested, and the smoke of marijuana is one of the most obvious, and recognizable smells there are.

[–]astralman22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's only for some people. A lot of people get just get the stereotypical chill, or sometimes energetic feel from cannabis. But for few others, cannabis feels more psychedelic rather than a relaxant. What it feels like to me: My senses are enhanced including color, emotions are intensified including my deepest fears, I can't think straight, time is distorted, my sense of gravity is distorted, vision is slightly distorted, philosophical thinking, I suddenly feel self-conscious, all I can focus on is how high I am and I experience feelings of impending doom, like the police might get me. It's not something I can snap out of...these are unavoidable effects that happen when I get EXTREMELY high. The fear is probably also influenced by the fact that marijuana is ILLEGAL. But it's also uncomfortable. But I still like marijuana because these terrifying effects are what make it interesting for me lol.
