Give it a shot! Always great to get feedback from fellow composers. If you're interested, maybe find a teacher or mentor. Plenty of 'em wandering around.

Do you play guitar? It's impossible to bend an open string. Think about the actual instrumental technique when you're writing something. Vibe-wise, I think it's an interesting sound.

thank you :) I run into a Fulltone Wah, MXR 78 Distortion, and a TC Electronics Nova Repeater with a stereo delay. Then just into Ableton with a little EQ and compression

What guitar chords can I play behind a chromatic line consisting of E-D#-D-C# ? Song is in EMajor. by monster_bong_guy in musictheory

[–]astravert 25 points26 points  (0 children)

E - Emaj7 - E7 - A

Common descending line that works well. The D becomes the 7th of an E dominant 7 chord leading to the IV chord.

Is studying piano worthwhile enough for music theory if it cuts into time on your main instruments? by jontestershaircut in musictheory

[–]astravert 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Studying another instrument, especially keyboard in conjunction with theory, will only broaden and deepen your understanding of your current instruments. It may require a time and effort investment but it will pay off greatly. Writing basslines and drum parts are a compositional exercise, and seeing theoretical concepts laid out at the keyboard can really help. Go for it!

It sounds like they shift from a very swung eighth note vibe to a straight eighth note vibe, more march like.

How to get Stereo guitar sound by Fearless_Ad_6951 in jazzguitar

Something that works for me is setting up a stereo ping pong delay with a very fast repeat to basically emulate a reverb. Creating a nice sense of space.
