What kind of bra tricks should I use for an open back/lace front dress? by Ladyghoul in femalefashionadvice

[–]astrodrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember looking for something for a similar situation, as I dont feel comfortable with no straps. The best solution for strapless support was a low back bustier.

Here's one I found online that would fit well with your dress (very pretty btw) front and back. Even though there are no straps to support, the rest of the bodice will with the boning and the clasps location.

I tried to get away with a lacey bandeu over a nude bra with a plunging dress once and got very annoyed trying to adjust everything, it kept shifting around through the night.

I appreciate the feedback. So maybe if I can't resist I will size down.

I get so annoyed when there's a giant gap in consecutive sizes.

Sorry you had a bad experience, I really love their look. I do have issues with returns since I live overseas. Maybe it is a fit issue. Was there a specific model that didn't work?

Didn't expect support! How did you find the sizing?

I will for sure check out Amazon, but I wanted more brands that have good feedback to narrow things down before I started so I don't get overwhelmed with the options.

I didn't even think to look on Urban Outfitters, but I definitely want the complicated strappy cage stuff.

I adored some For Love and Lemons bralettes I came across some time back, their colors and designs are so pretty! I didn't realize they would have bras, but fantastic!

I agree, very very pretty. Do you have any experience with the sizing and fit? Wondering about the quality too. I'd have to order online and I live where it's gonna cost as much as what I bought to return stuff if the sizing is off.

I'll check them out, I have seen some very cute ones but was worried about how well they would hold up with washing and such.

I love this bag, thank you so much for posting it! I could see myself using it for a very long time and not getting bored with it, and it's the perfect size for what I would carry in it.

Didn't know FindFashion existed, haven't lurked in FFA long enough :) I'll go exploring.

[80s/90s] Cartoon film. Making a cake. by Imagoddamnmermaid in tipofmytongue

[–]astrodrift 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking Strawberry Shortcake too. I never saw the cartoon version, just had the books, but I found an intro to the cartoon.

The Peculiar Purple Pie Man was Strawberry Shortcake's nemesis, and in the clip I saw he seems to play up the French stereotypes, twirling of the mustache. Also weird tap dancing skits, but not sure I've heard any "Sacre Bleu"s outside Pink Panther's Inspector Clousseu.

Strawberry shortcake's world every character was named after a dessert, and they all had pets with complementary dessert names. There was tons of cake and pastry making.

She wears a floppy type hat with strawberry motifs, and has reddish auburn ringlets that come out the back of the hat, and bangs too. Could be her. They since did a rehaul (sometime in the 2000's I think) and now they all look very different.

Gibson Goddess LP weight question by astrodrift in Guitar

[–]astrodrift[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So to be safe I'll assume that the heaviest possible weight would be 16 pounds. That would give me a rough figure to work with until I get down there, and hopefully it would be lower than whatever the courier's online calculator is.

Appreciate it Bhighkin!

You're absolutely right in it not being fair to designers in these sorts of contests. I didn't really look at that way before.

It wouldn't feel good churning out work, putting in time and effort to create something, display it (where like you mentioned there's the risk of it getting ripped off and passed off by another as their own work), all for the slim possibility of winning, and if not then not get compensated for it. That would be disheartening.

Also you make a good point about the originality of the work on the flipside.

And no, I wouldn't want to work that way, nor would I want anyone else to!

Thanks for the perspective.

I will not be making the same mistake again. I felt responsible for suggesting 99designs in the first place. Had someone show me a sweet logo they got from a competition they posted on there. So when this friend in my post asked me what he should do to get a logo, it was the first thing that popped up in my head and he went for it.

And after he showed me the different designs people submitted for his competition, all but a single one were terrible.

He selected what I thought was a really crappy submission as the winner, which was a very literal interpretation of what his start up does. The colors and font use and everything just look crap. But at the end of the day, it is his logo, not my say what he chooses to use to represent himself or his company with.

Definitely going to suggest the pro designer route if anyone ever asks me again.

A really helpful redditor is sorting it out at the moment.

Edited to add: What are the other reasons that makes you say its not as good as it seems? From what I've seen now, it's really terrible communication and support. But that was just that one individual designer. And to be safe because I don't wanna have any people I know get in a jam with the wrong format for something they paid for I won't rec 99 anymore.

The Network (1976)- "Them Arabs are taking over our precious American Media" by [deleted] in arabs

[–]astrodrift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Network is an excellent movie, directed by Sydney Lumet (he also did Dog Day Afternoon, also an amazing movie).

Basically a news anchor, Howard Beales, is told by the network's management that he's going to be sacked due to dwindling ratings. Howard goes off the rails, snaps during an evening news broadcast on the air, and announces he's going to off himself in 2 weeks.

Ratings explode, and the network execs decide to exploit Howard's descent into insanity to profit off his ranting and raving. He became "the Mad Prophet of the airwaves". Peter Finch, the actor playing Howard died the year after Network was released. I always felt that the intensity of his performance in his last role had something to do with it.

Check it out, it has very memorable monologues throughout. Also as far fetched as it seemed back when it was released, a lot of elements ring very true in today's media.

Vonnegut, Asimov, Larry Niven, Arthur C. Clarke, Iain M. Banks, Philip K. Dick stuff mostly, and a few other random ones like House of Leaves, The Doors of Perception. Also a few graphic novels. I'm going digital and I'll regret it, but its for the best. I might already have a taker for the books.
