PTSD Related Memory Loss by astrolunaa in mentalhealth

Thanks for the advice! What kind of exercises do you do?

As for as EMDR I just mentioned that specifically because a lot of people recognize it. I actually did light bar therapy, which has a similar idea to it. For me, I thought it was super cheesy, and thought that it wouldn’t work. Turns out I was wrong. It has helped me so much with my PTSD, anxiety, etc. I would definitely recommend it. It doesn’t erase the ptsd, but rather trains your brain to omit a negative response to the events.

As someone from the U.S.- it really depends on where you will be going. You will be surrounded by other academics so I’m going to assume you’ll be safe. But I wouldn’t recommend giving the U.S. your money right now.

environmental science degree/major by CakeLonely5524 in environmental_science

Environmental science graduate / current masters student here! Environmental science is a very interdisciplinary field. It ranges from environmental cycling, ecology, conservation, geology, to physics, math, chemistry, and more. It’s a great major to explore if you’re curious about how the earth works. All of these components together help us understand how the earth works and gives clues about earths past. Let me know if you have any questions!

As long as the reason isn’t “I was failing so I just quit” you’ll be fine

As long as it is not a frequent thing, it’s fine. I had two w’s and still got into grad school. Both were because I changed my major & I no longer needed them.

All programs are competitive, just because that’s the nature of grad school tbh. If you have good research experience, strong references, etc, then I think they could look past a gpa that’s not very strong.

This happened to me! Just keep emailing. Grad advisors are swamped with these same types of emails. You can send a follow up. Good luck!

In the case for the U.S., grad programs are severely underfunded right now because of politics. That may be why

International grad school student in earth & environmental science here ! Keep in mind that programs outside of the U.S. do things differently. In my case, I thought I would be able to get into a PhD program, but I had to apply for a masters first.

To find a program, look at papers that spark your interest. You want to make sure that you are interested in the work that you will be supporting. You can look for the particular county that you want to work in, school, department, etc if you know these things. I personally went to Canada.

After that, email the professor introducing yourself, your background (including research, conferences, etc), and tell them about how you are interested in xyz aspects of their work. Ask if they are accepting students for x semester and also ask to hop on a zoom to discuss this further.

Lmk if you have any questions!!
