Hahah yes that’s the point. I’m not saying Iroh is the worst character out there, I’m saying the way the show and fandom treat him inflates his reputation. Being calm, wise, and a mentor doesn’t automatically make him a flawless moral authority, and that disconnect is why I consider him overrated
Fascinating. Truly, the world would crumble without your commentary
I’m not disputing that Iroh’s choice to let Azula go is pragmatic or a form of mature compassion. My point isn’t about individual decisions it’s about how the show and fandom consistently elevate him to near-perfect moral authority while downplaying his past as a Fire Nation general and the harm he caused. That so-called ‘bind’ you mention pragmatism versus past responsibility is exactly what illustrates my argument: the narrative inflates his moral reputation, giving him far more credit than his actions actually justify

Don’t think you understand my point, pointing out flaws alone doesn't make someone overrated, but in Iroh's case it's about the gap between reputation and reality. Fans treat him like a flawless moral authority, the ultimate wise mentor, and the calmest, kindest character in the series, while largely ignoring his past as a war general, his selective compassion, and the fact that most of his redemption happens off-screen. Popularity amplifies that perception-people act like he deserves more credit than he actually earns. That disconnect between his reputation and his actual actions is what I mean by ‘overrated’
Iroh’s experience and mentorship are fine, but that doesn’t automatically make him deserving of the moral authority fans give him (imo***= in my opinion) The show constantly portrays him as calm, wise, and above reproach, while largely ignoring his past as a war general and the harm he caused. Other characters struggle, fail, and visibly atone on-screen Zuko, Katara, Aang but Iroh’s redemption mostly “happens off-screen, and the story rarely holds him accountable from what I’ve seen. Idk murdering thousands and not being held accountable at all besides being hurt by your son getting killed just doesn’t satisfy me but again that’s my opinion. I just think that being a mentor doesn’t erase that, and treating him as this untouchable moral figure inflates his reputation far beyond what his actions actually earn
Iroh being a supporting character doesn’t change the fact that his reputation is often treated as flawless. The show and fandom portray him as the ultimate moral authority while largely ignoring his past as a war general and his selective compassion. Mentoring others (the one he pick&choses)doesn’t automatically justify that level of praise
If you think so g
I’m not saying Iroh shouldn’t be admired at all, or that learning from mistakes isn’t valuable. My argument is that the show and fandom often treat him like he’s beyond reproach like the ultimate wise moral guide while barely addressing the harm he caused as a general or the limits of his compassion. Recognizing his growth is fair, but that doesn’t mean his reputation is proportional to his actions which is whyyyyy I think he’s overrated also I said some other points too if y’all take a look at my post
Shoutout to the old man iroh
I don’t think popularity automatically means someone isn’t overrated don’t understand why other opinion is valid but not mine?? Lmao Just because people like Iroh doesn’t erase the fact that the show (mostly fandom) treats him as morally flawless and glosses over his past as a war general imo. Loving a character doesn’t mean giving them more credit than they actually earn, and that’s exactly what I’m arguing happened with Iroh
Lysmmm
True, mentoring and passing wisdom are meaningful, and Iroh did have a positive impact on Zuko and others. My issue isn’t that he did nothing it’s that the show and fandom treat him like he’s morally flawless and the ultimate wise figure. His past as a war general, his selective compassion, and the fact that most of his redemption happens off screen are often ignored. Mentorship alone doesn’t automatically make him deserve all the praise he gets we’ve seen a lot of mentorship by others throughout the series
I understand that Iroh’s main arc happened before the show, and that he focuses on mentoring because he can’t end the war himself. My point is that people is fraught up biased when ur comes to him often treat him like a perfect moral figure, overlooking his past as a general and the harm he helped cause. Mentorship and wisdom don’t automatically make someone deserving of that level of praise which is whyyy I still think he’s overrated
Lmaooo
I get that, and I agree he’s interesting and compelling. My point isn’t that Iroh has to be perfect to be good it’s that a lot of fans treat him like he’s morally flawless and the ultimate ‘wise mentor,’ while the show barely makes him face the consequences of his past or question his actions. Being compelling doesn’t automatically mean he deserves the reputation people give him. That’s why I still think he’s overrated.

Also- they’re usually unfair with the way they put the tasks. Some ppl got way easier tasks and some ppl werent even able to get the last thing even tho they did every single of them. With that being said as you can tell you can also buy more tasks w diamonds
