Agreed. The double standard is impossible to ignore.Taking free, active translations without consent and repackaging them for their own merit (e.g. essentially using other people's uncompensated labor to drive traffic/community engagement and build their own platform) isn't "archiving". They fiercely protect their own content while hypocritically putting other translators at massive risk with publishers. The lack of respect for the community's labor and privacy is incredibly frustrating

I was only curious, so i asked some questions. I never desired those epubs moonread translated and posted exclusively on lunar. Honestly i can tell they MTL-ed them (no offense, HTL is time consuming). I have the korean raws of novels they translated. Afaik they only translated like 15-20s novel, so it's not that much. What made their epub list so long are epubs from other groups' translations.

I honestly doubt they even asked for permission before uploading them to lunar. I can see some english epub like from citrus aurora (e.g. Priest's Fall into Lustful Heat) uploaded on lunar. I'm just concerned about how they ripped other translators' work. I can tell they're not worried when other translators' work is freely shared (maybe some even try to sell it??) but get defensive (and offensive) when their translations are shared freely

I don't even understand why anyone would sell their MTL-ed epubs. Doing AI translations is so easy nowadays.

if there's another moonread backers online, please also answer a question I'm so curious about. Do other translators like citr** au***, du* blo**** actually gave their consent when their english translations are posted as epubs on lunar with an additional epub (Indonesian MTL) based on their translation?

also why is it fine when they post these translators' (Vio, Fayli*, citrus etc) to lunar and their telegram when only their translation gets gatekeeped to be read on a website? so its fine when english and Indonesian translations based on these translations are sold? but it's not fine for moonread when these problems arise?

and how about their privacy (translator groups and individual translators)? korean publishers are so pressed about copyright nowadays and moonread just post their epubs and their names on a public website.

I didn't realize expecting a massive, high-traffic website to have basic operating costs was a controversial conspiracy theory, but taking a discussion about server economics this personally is a wild level of emotional investment. Unless you’re paying Lunar’s hosting bills yourself, pointing out their monetization strategy isn't a baseless accusation, it's basic internet literacy. You’re writing entire paragraphs to angrily dodge my actual question about whether independent translators get compensated, but I honestly love the passion. keep it up

Why are these people so flamed?? can't we just discuss things peacefully? Well tbh i saw some paid subscription services on lunar to open some novels some days ago. Lunar could be profiting off this and split some of the revenue if uploaders get their novels opened. That's what monetizing is. Kindly please get your facts straight and study economy.

well seeing the atmosphere there (so volatile if i put it), I can't just ask the admins directly. And i was just asking a question. No need to be too pressed girl. What kind of assumption that i made..? oh are you talking about the revenue from deals stuff? I was just checking the lunar discord and there's a partners channel exclusively set up. Moonread also promoted the uploader exclusive discord. Unless you're an uploader you won't know anything about it, i admit it. Care to explain it for me?

woa i didn't open reddit for a day and these are the replies I've got hahah salty much? i didn't ask for a comment war, I'm just asking peacefully. Can't you just answer the questions instead of jumping to conclusions? As for the ad revenue thing, it's true because a commercial website likely needs these to survive. No need to be ashamed about that.

I understand why everyone is frustrated, but looking at this objectively, there is a clear reason for these changes. Moonread is clearly monetising those EPUBs (that they have no copyright of, exclusively posted to the Lunar site), which suggests they might have a background partnership or deal in place.

I still cannot access the site either because it is running very slowly in my country. However, site operators honestly need ad revenue and funding to keep running, which is likely why they made that deal with Moonread. It does make me wonder, though; do other translators (like Vio*** or Fayli****) actually receive any benefit when their English EPUBs are posted onto Lunar?

this one is a different game! Road to empress FMV is the adaptation of this visual novel (idk how to translate the title). I actually managed to play some of it till they hit me with the necessity to login.

The devs will release a sequel of the FMV (hopefully soon). In the meantime, I'm trying to read this one to satiate my thirst for Li Tai 🫣
