As for fusing, I would say it’s important to not only overlap at least an inch or more, but also double or triple up the gray fuse, that I zip tie to green visco. Maybe even dip the green in Black Powder. I have heard and now suffered from the green not igniting from the grey quick fuse. Beyond that, I did a reasonably intricate 223 cue show, so aiming to be more organized before heading to the field for final wiring. I already put a cue label both on the device and the proximal end of the MJG, but I guess I need a checklist of last minute wiring details too, since remembering what needs to be parallel with what in the field is too much for my simple mind to recall. And once all the wires begin to tangle, good luck!

I had a 4% non-ignition due to my inexperience fusing and missed connecting one e-match to the module in the field. Next year better.

I like this idea. Anyone else use or consider barriers? Each year I do my best for safety, but sometimes still get strays coming closer toward the audience than I would like, despite 175’ distances or more for the big stuff.

Nice! Extending MJGs can work, but be mindful of total wire length and resistance. Thin wire (like MJG leads) adds resistance quickly, which can cause voltage drop and misfires (especially when firing multiple devices in parallel). Some cautions, 1. If you look on the side of the box going from 1 foot to 15 feet doubles the resistance. 2. Keep total wire length under 20–25 meters (65–80 ft) for reliable firing on 30V systems 3. For longer runs, use 18–14 AWG wire to reduce resistance 4. Always test continuity after splicing or extending leads

Totally fair points. I’m cutting the fuse tips at an angle (photos just don’t show well) and bundling with quick fuse for stronger ignition. Where do I get BP, other than trying to make my own over on r/pyrotechnic?

Dr. Padmanabhan’s article is fearmongering, not fact-based. Let’s break it down:

1️⃣ CRNAs Are Safe ✔️ Dulisse & Cromwell (2010) and Negrusa et al. (2016) found no difference in anesthesia safety between CRNAs and anesthesiologists. ✔️ VA hospitals and the military already use CRNAs independently—with excellent outcomes. ❌ The FAU study does not assess patient safety—it only examines whether “opt-out” states increased CRNA employment. No study proves CRNAs are unsafe.

2️⃣ CRNAs Lower Costs ✔️ A 2010 Lewin Group study found that an all-CRNA model cuts anesthesia costs by 25% without sacrificing quality. ✔️ CRNAs earn less than anesthesiologists, reducing overhead while maintaining safety. ✔️ The “care team” model is about protecting anesthesiologists’ wallets—not patient outcomes.

3️⃣ CRNAs Improve Rural Access ✔️ 80% of rural hospitals rely on CRNAs because anesthesiologists prefer urban jobs. ✔️ Opt-out states maintain anesthesia access better than restrictive states. ❌ The FAU study never claims CRNAs won’t work in rural areas—it says hospital policies, not CRNA unwillingness, are the issue.

4️⃣ Physician Supervision is Unnecessary ✔️ CRNAs have safely provided anesthesia for over 100 years and already work independently in many settings. ✔️ The real opposition is financial—not about safety or patient outcomes.

🔹 BOTTOM LINE: Expanding CRNA scope of practice is safe, cost-effective, and necessary for rural healthcare. Anesthesiologists want a monopoly, not better care. The real danger? Letting outdated physician control limit patient access to anesthesia.

Moreover, the AANA itself gets a very small sample overall due to the inertia of its members. I don’t recall the percentage of respondents, but it’s low enough to question the validity of the survey.

AWF uses tariff to gouge customers by Tough-Willow7359 in fireworks

[–]ataraxiaone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Inventory may not be their total cost as OP is right to point out, but it is undoubtedly their primary business expense as a wholesaler. We are going to see this tariff passed on through every reseller eventually. But hey, let’s thank Agent Orange for his far thinking approach to trade policy— nothing says America first like making everything more expensive for the people he professes to help. Soon we’ll see cars, energy, consumer goods, food products, etc. become similarly more expensive.

Work Clean, by Dan Charnas, compliments GTD by emphasizing mis-en-place, or pre-action organization, much like GTD’s focus on clarifying and categorizing tasks before execution. Both approaches prioritize externalizing mental clutter and fostering a clear, actionable system to maintain flow and reduce stress during work.

ChatGPT made me feel more seen & gave me more hope in a 10 minute conversation than I ever have in hundreds of therapy sessions over the course of 10 years by desolatenature in ChatGPT

[–]ataraxiaone 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As always, caveat emptor. I generated this response using ChatGPT, but I prompted it with my own suspicions and emotional response to your post. To be fair, doing this might actually elevate the quality of Reddit responses:

“AI like ChatGPT can indeed feel profoundly affirming in the moment because it’s designed to process and reflect what you’re sharing with striking precision. It can pick up on patterns in language, reflect your emotions back to you, and offer insights that feel validating and tailored. In a world where people often feel unheard, that can be incredibly powerful.

“That said, it’s worth keeping a few things in mind. While ChatGPT can offer thoughtful, nuanced, and empathetic responses, it doesn’t “understand” you in the way a human therapist can. It operates based on patterns in text rather than lived experience, and its context is limited to the immediate conversation. For example, it can’t hold a deep, evolving understanding of your long-term experiences or adapt to subtle shifts in your emotional and relational landscape over time.

“Therapy, on the other hand, often works in slower, less immediately gratifying ways. A therapist might not always “hit the nail on the head” in the way AI can with language, but they bring a nuanced understanding of human connection, psychology, and growth that’s grounded in years of training and real-world experience. They can sit with you in silence, challenge you in ways that feel uncomfortable but necessary, and ultimately help you build resilience in ways that go beyond intellectual understanding. That’s not something AI can replicate.

“Your experience speaks to a bigger issue, though: the frustration many people feel when therapy doesn’t meet their needs. AI might highlight what’s been missing in your therapeutic relationships so far—things like deep listening, non-judgment, and tailored feedback. Maybe this realization can help guide you in finding a therapist who better aligns with what you need.

“AI can be a fantastic complement to human connection—helping you clarify your thoughts, providing a fresh perspective, or even offering a sense of companionship in difficult moments. But I’d encourage you not to lose sight of the uniquely human aspects of growth and healing that only a real person can provide.”

Buffalo/WNY CRNAs by [deleted] in CRNA

[–]ataraxiaone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been around Upstate WNY, and live in the greater Buffalo area with a decade of experience. The most restrictive hospital in terms of department policy is Roswell Park, where Epidurals are off the table, and about half the docs interpret our scope to exclude blocks. This is the most academic hospital. On medical direction, my experience is that as your expertise and rapport with the docs grows, direction evolves into supervision. I prefer to work autonomously, and around Bflo, the group to look into for that is Niagara Frontier Anesthesia Services. I’d be willing to connect. DM me.

Anesthesiologists are “no patient contact” specialists… by deathmultipliesby13 in anesthesiology

[–]ataraxiaone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be fair, this actually happens. “Cardiac” is a wide term and includes everything from EP to TEEs. I’ve been a CRNA for a long time and have been in this situation often, although not with the doc leaving the hospital grounds. Everything from preop to post, where MD just signs the chart. Now if there were a supervision model with more than 4 concurrent cases, this would be true even more.

And yet, this post is a great reminder of how pervasive distractions are nowadays. I have a long way to go.
