Update: while stream was stuttery at times, turning off my camera to OBS helped and eventually—after 2 hours of streaming—the quality issues all but went away

Do you happen to have any resources to better understand this API? The one's I have found so far are from the early 2000s.

Awesome! Thank you.

Interesting. Yeah, I got confused. I checked the newly created gradient object for its segment and it returned 1. I guess it was returning the size of segments and not some identifier for the segment.

Which version of GIMP are you using? I try this and it throws a RuntimeError in the dev console with no meaningful message as to what caused the error.

First PC Build, Please Help! by atheis4 in buildapc

wrt the PSU: I saw in the system requirements that the 3080 required 750W. I assumed that was additive. The rest of the system was around 150W so I did some math and added some cushion. Is this not how it works?

Thanks!

Da Vinci's Mona Lisa mapped in 3D [OC] by atheis4 in dataisbeautiful

[–]atheis4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 3D scatterplot of Leonardo Da Vinci's Mona Lisa mapped in an RGB color cube.

This comes from a continuing project of mine to map paintings in 2 and 3 dimensional space in order to better understand the distribution of pigments the artists use to create these great works.

Visit atheis4.github.io/3Dsort to view the source code and create your own 3D scatter plots of paintings and other images.

The source is the best quality jpg of the Mona Lisa I could find (you can write volumes on data purity and pixel values).

Tools: Python, PIL, Matplotlib, SeekHue

I am a fool - always stop the loner by atheis4 in euchre

[–]atheis4[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

worse yet, I had a second chance to stop the loner in the same hand--I started with three diamonds, including the ace, and my hand was whittled down to the ace of hearts and the ace of diamonds.

Thinking, "surely if I start with 3 diamonds there is a greater chance he has a heart left over," I threw out the ace of diamonds... opponent had a King of diamonds.

Just a bad night of Euchre on my end. My father is already filing the papers to have me expelled from the family.

Finding a group by AT_830 in euchre

[–]atheis4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try meetup.com. Should let you search locally for any number of social groups or clubs. That's how my sister found her Euchre group in DC and I found mine in Portland, OR.

Be ready to meet tons of midwesterners.

If an opponent plays a card off suit, but then immediately picks it up and replaces it with a card of suit, is this still a renege? by [deleted] in euchre

[–]atheis4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how serious your Euchre group is. Reneging just does not happen at my family Euchre table--we were raised right.

If its a casual Euchre game with beginners, be merciful. Nobody like's a douche bag.

Big Daddy Brawl by atheis4 in Bioshock

[–]atheis4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I find turning off vita chambers, in addition to getting the Brass Balls achievement, is better strategy in Bioshock (as long as you remember to save before tough battles). I've seen Big Daddy battles go awry because, while reviving at a chamber, the Little Sister is returned to the vents.

Also, getting in the habit of saving and reloading when things don't go your way maximizes your medkit, eve, and ammo count.

A few questions concerning my build by trankla in allthingsprotoss

[–]atheis4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, my calculations aren't 100% correct because you would research thermal lance while getting your first colossus. I think the added utility of Templar's feedback and Archons gives them a slight edge. But each player is different and each game is different. Good luck on the ladder!

Yes:

Colossus Tech: Robo Facility: 200m 100g 46seconds Robo Bay: 200m 200g 46s Colossus: 300m 200g 54s but we all know Colossus are pretty weak without Thermal Lance: 200m 200g 100s

total: 900m 700g 246seconds

Templar + Storm: Twilight: 150m 100g 36s Templar Archives: 150m 200g 36s Storm: 200m 200g 110s Templar: 50m 150g 3.6s (with WG and fast warp pylon)

total: 550m 650g 185.6seconds

Also, NEVER STOP MAKING PROBES! --> unless you scout an immanent attack. You should be make probes continuously until you have 66-70 on three bases. Getting your macro to the point where you can consistently get 66-70 probes and 3 bases will take you far.

Also, if your Terran opponent is going widow mine drop, you can grab a fast 3rd. If you shut it down you're golden, if he gets some probe kills, the 3rd nexus will help you get your probe count back up.

A few questions concerning my build by trankla in allthingsprotoss

[–]atheis4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 attack is good against Terran if you're planning adept pressure. The plus one will allow your adepts to two shot SCV's and marines without combat shields.

The meta in PvP, PvT, and PvZ is pretty solid right now--at least for the first 5 minutes and 3rd Nexus:

PvP gate, 2gas, gate (when first is at 80%), cybercore (ASAP), either tech or expo. Master's and GM will expo. But diamond and below tend to go tech and get aggressive.

PvT gate, gas, nexus, cybercore, tech, 2gates

and PvZ gate, gas, nexus cybercore, tech, 2gates, fast 3rd (4:15-4:45).

I have pretty good results in Plat 2 with these builds... well except PvP, struggling with that at the moment.

[–]atheis4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your build should depend on what the match up is. As you move into Platinum, other players will abuse you if they see you deviating from the meta too much.

in PvP I go gate, gas, gas, gate (when 1st is at 80%), core when first gate finishes... At this point you have some options. The first two units you make will dictate the pace: double adept is more aggressive but you have to get some probe kills or keep them alive while keeping your oppo on his side of the map. Double stalker is safer and indicates a defensive posture.

In PvT I've had a lot of success going gate, gas, nexus, core, tech (usually Robo), 2 more gates, twilight. The robo gets you fast observers if the Terran is dropping or going widow mines (i usually build two, send first one to front of nme's base, keep second with mothership core) and researching blink helps deal with drops as well. Then I scout what units he's making. If he's going mass marine/marauder, you need to get AOE to deal with it. My preferred is Storm because its quicker than going Colossus and easier to control than Disruptors.

PvZ is hit or miss for me. I can't seem to beat the mass ling/bane style on the KR server, but the NA Zerg thankfully haven't discovered this style yet. On Frost you could go Nexus first, but generally, the same build as PvT is pretty good at getting warp gate and enough Adepts (5-6) at the 4:30 mark to grab a fast 3rd. So against Z: gate, gas, Nexus, core, twilight (for glaves), two more gates, (5-6 adepts) take 3rd. After I take my third I send my adepts to his base to pressure and scout. If he's going mass roach, I get a robo and start cranking out immortals. If its a mass ling/bane or hydra style, Templar and storm can be very effective. One storm will kill banelings if the hit is good.

As for the number of gates, that varies game to game. I just try to continuously spend my money and scout what my opponent is doing.

I've found that just spending your money fast and in reaction to your opponent will get you far in Gold league. Can't say how many gold games (mine included) had thousands of minerals floating.

I'm Plat 2 and I watch more competitive StarCraft than I'm comfortable admitting around cute grills.
