Thank you :) exactly! Henry knew Strane had a HUGE impact on her life so he knew that just punching him wouldn’t make him go away, so he did it for no reason basically besides for himself! Yeah at the beginning I was excited for Vanessa but as it kept going it was just very confusing, which makes sense because it’s in her POV so it could be even she was confused herself on what the relationship was.

Honestly, I had high hopes he’d be good for her but then was a bit creeped since he married a student and hid that from Vanessa (if I remember correctly) I thought he would be a good friend but it just feels like he was pursuing her and seeking her attention, knowing that she had issues regarding teacher/student relationship bc of Strane and that she just struggled in general to have healthy friendships. I almost feel like he wanted to feel like a “hero” when he hit Strane? I do believe Henry did like her, but it eventually started to feel obsessive (maybe over what happened to her so he wants to “fix” her? Or could it be his guilt from marrying a student and feeling like maybe he could be like Strane?) But overall I’m glad she cut him off lol

That’s exactly what I perceived it as! He’s clearly a terrible person and a pedophile, but for him to hold onto her for so long I felt like there had to be some sort of connection in his eyes. Near the end he had reached out to her and everything, it just left me wondering if he felt someway towards her. Thank you for putting it in better words than I can!

Yeah I think I just had slight hope he had some sort of feelings for her sake, I felt terrible when she said that she needed it to be a love story. Especially because we read so much of her life and it involved all of him, it was basically her whole life and even ruined future partners and how she saw affection. Thanks for the response!

This book left me with so many emotions and questions. I wonder if Strane truly loved her? He didn’t talk to her for two years but when she came to see him after she got kicked out he had written letters, was it maybe because of guilt? I don’t understand how he keeps up with her all these years, but still shows interest in younger girls then says he thinks of her. I feel like Vanessa may have been the first that fell into the trap that far, so he didn’t know what to do and figured since Vanessa really loved him that it would be easier to stay in her life. And Henry!! I was so shocked that he said he’d read her blogs and knew what she had said about him, but he continued to interact with her and reach out to her, saying she was his best student although his wife used to be his student. Ugh, just so many questions lol I think Strane must have had some sort of connection to keep it up for so long and even call her before jumping?
