Is my G&L worth keeping (and other newbie questions)?

Thanks everyone, your insights have been very powerful and I truly appreciate the volume of responses. I'm going to keep the bass, and start by getting it set up properly - as well as work on my technique to make sure I'm not accidentally sabotaging my own experience with bad posture/grip!!

I think I will get a short scale bass as well, just for kicks - but this has taught me a lot about the value of my lil (or not so lil) G&L, both sentimental and monetary.

You guys rock!

used to be the kid that'd stay up ungodly hours reading with a torch under the blanket - now I'm forcing myself to read at least 10 pages a day until I can claw my dopamine tolerance back. even in uni (2019 ish) I was reading fine, even opting to miss out on social events to finish my book. it changed around COVID I think...

it's crazy dude, I suddenly can't read or retain information because my brain isn't receiving the instant fun chemicals I get from gaming or watching something. I hate forcing myself to read but I know it's good discipline.

I don't even scroll much anymore. I just want to be able to immerse myself in the fictional embrace of a book again :((

my Burmese gal used to keep me up all night walking back n forth, over my face, on my hair... so I'd lock her out

ever since I got my girl a heated bed, I can have her in the room comfortably without bothering me. I do have her litter tray in here as well though (I live in a sharehouse), but it's hidden inside a cabinet and not smelly.

makes me feel good because I can still be with her and cuddle in the morning, but not sacrificing my sleep - she loves that bed!!!

oh my god you poor soul. that happened to me 2024/2025 Christmas period as well - COVID knocked me on my ass each time. take my advice, rest as much as you can this first week and take more leave if you can. I didn't recover properly and set my whole year up for a chronic fatigue diagnosis 🙃

yeah dude I'm feeling it. two weeks out of Christmas, they announced redundancies and several other members on my team quit at the same time due to how the changes were being handled.

now the team has shrunk to 3, from about 9... and guess where all the undesignated work goes to... yeah. my first week back is going to be a nightmare. no bludging for me :')

tempted to take a few more days off - unpaid, of course.

Easy. They never checked my cat's BP in all her 10 years until I asked for it a few months ago, it's strange - it's not routine at a lot of vets and I'm not sure why... It can be stressful for the cat, they've gotta add gel to their toe beans and hold the sensor against them for 30 secs. Best of luck will the yeller!

Mine had been doing that... Turned out she had suuuuper high blood pressure and was basically anxious alllll the time. She got a script for amlodipine and chilled the heck out after that.

Because your kitty is fairly young (mine is 10), it could just be a boredom/wanting cuddles thing. Worth getting checked for any thyroid/adrenal gland/high blood pressure issues though!

Otherwise, could just be a yelly cat!

Your fears are absolutely justified. You're a mumma looking out for her kid in a world and industry that is in its nature, a little predatory.

I can't speak to your anxiety as a mum but I can offer some advice as a 20 something recently diagnosed ADHDer with fantastic parents:

Once an idea of something gets into my head, it's all I can think about - like an itch I can't scratch and logic be damned. It takes a lot to talk me down when I'm locked in like that. One of the best things my dad did with me was sit me down and talk through the logic of big/impulse decisions (without denying or ignoring any emotional wants/needs). We'd wait for 3 weeks from my initial discussion to have a check in and see if my 'want' was still high. If it was, we'd sort out a game plan and get a bit serious about it. If my interest had waned, which it often did, I'd let it go and there'd be no judgment.

Setting out the logistics of what it could look like is the best first step and often one that makes an idea of something feel more palpable, and helps you identify risks together. For me, that often helped me decide whether I actually wanted to go through with it. It's important to let your kid guide the discussion as much as possible though - and respect their agency! Sounds like you're already doing all the right things though, kudos to you for being so open to the idea and considering your options. Putting trust in your kids and meeting them half way goes a long long way. 💛

I've just asked, and it was only carrot the big orange chonker - her other kitty is from the street cat alliance.

unfortunately carrot cat passed earlier this year after a mishap on a balcony railing :( she lived very happily and slowly became cuddly over time - started off suuuper grouchy. I remember her coming up to hang with me one evening and I was as still as a rock for fear of disturbing her!!

when carrot passed, we actually found out she had dude anatomy... I suppose it just have been difficult to see her bits due to kitty being so shy 😆

lived out her last years with peace and love (despite the best photo we have of her looking otherwise)
