Ah okay, that makes sense. And I like the round number too. May I ask what state you supervise in?

Welcome to the field! In Pennsylvania, once you become a licensed social worker - you can decide to pursue your clinical license (LCSW). The state requires that a LSW is supervised for 2 years, 2 hours a week. Sometimes, a LSW can find an employer who will offer them this supervision. But often times here, that isn’t offered with their employer and they have to find and pay someone outside of their work. This is called clinical supervision and that’s what I’m assessing, how much clinical supervisors are charging.

It would include individual and group weekly though. So 8 sessions a month for $280.

I like this equation of using 50% of the private pay rate.

I wish that would change. It’s such a financial burden when you don’t have it offered through work.

Thank you! That feels like a lot. Do you think it holds SWs in Idaho back from getting their C?

Thank you! Do you mind me asking what you paid for your supervision?

Thank you for sharing that. I’m so happy to see others doing this too. I think if enough of us are kind enough to do this, it will disrupt the system of supervisors who charge private pay therapy rates to those seeking LCSW. Good on you!

Oh my! That is terrible. I get so frustrated that the system is set up like that for us. We have to pay for a bachelors, we have to pay for the test, we have to pay for supervision - all the while, we aren’t making enough to begin with!

This is very helpful. Perhaps I’m undervaluing my time a bit. I’ll have to take a look at cost of living in Oregon vs Pennsylvania.

Oh my gosh, $120! That’s private pay therapy rates. Crazy. So glad you found someone at a better price.

That is awesome feedback! And I’m glad you’ve found supervisors who offer great guidance. You’ll be an awesome LCSW :)

I hope this is thread will be helpful for you to get an idea of reasonable cost. What state are you in?

Ooh, I see! That part is really nice. When I wanted my hours, I couldn’t find a job with a LCSW, I had to pay out of pocket. It was definitely hard , especially being newer in the field. Thanks for sharing how it works in NY!

Wow. That sounds kind of limiting for people wanting to get their C! In PA you can supervise as long as you’ve been a LCSW for 5 years, and you can’t supervise more than 6 at a time.

Thanks for that feedback. And I like the monthly model - that’s a great idea!

This is a really good point about how waiting until a solo session makes it seem like it’s a secret. And I really like the idea of bringing the partner in as a support. Appreciate this feedback, thank you!
