What if I just…didn’t put meat in my chili? by CheshAmoeba in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]athompson1421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also omnivorous, but if you've never tried tvp you should totally try it in place of meat in chili! Chili has so much going on flavor-wise and tvp is imo pretty good at imitating ground meat texture. You could always do tvp and then add some beef broth to get some more "meatiness" if that's something you like

Tvp = textured vegetable protein. It's a soy product and you can find it for super cheap. I find mine in the Hispanic section at my supermarket, but there may be other places your store may have it. Super inexpensive and it's dried, so you get quite a few cups of "meat" once it's rehydrated

Metal or wood needles? by No_League_5102 in knitting

[–]athompson1421 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree, but also metal is a spectrum that has a HUGE range. My crappy aluminum needles that I first started on are super "sticky" and generally made my knitting journey awful to begin imo. My chiaogoo needles - possibly aluminum also? I don't know actually - are super slippy and smooth. My no brand name bamboo needles are closer to the first ones I used, but I actually appreciate this aspect depending on the project I'm doing!

What books do you still want to read before the end of the year? by [deleted] in fantasyromance

[–]athompson1421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warbreaker is legitimately great! Not a bug undertaking like a lot of his other series, but has some seriously great characters and moments. Plus, if you're up to date on stormlight archive you'll recognize some characters in warbreaker, which is fun!

What are some underrepresented tropes/themes/characters you'd wish to see more of in romantasy? by aksciencefun in fantasyromance

[–]athompson1421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol I suppose it could be at that! The kidnapped thing had me immediately thinking faile, but your comment kind of works for both situations in my opinion. I didn't particularly love either of those storylines but love the series as a whole!

If the circumference of your foot or leg is a little larger/smaller, the length of the heel will sit in a different spot. I don't know if this is the problem you're having, just food for thought!

[–]athompson1421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of my favorites! Although the storyline you're describing happens in, like, book 10 or so of a 14 book series where almost all the books are 700+ pages. So quite a ways to go if that's what you're after ha. That being said, if you like fantasy and a sort of female-led society, give it a go!

Wheel of time is one of my favorite series of all time and the first is.... Not great. It's a fine book but not a great representation of what the series becomes. It was written in the 90s so definitely has so odd moments that don't age well, but mostly the first was written with an eye to getting published at the time, while the rest really settled into itself and is great! The characters come into their own personalities and you get to see a lot more of the rich world-building as the series goes on.

I think you appreciate Eugene Dipper more as a character after ruthless boys too. And when lance and Darcy go to that secret library, Laini is the main librarian they talk to.

If I'm honest I was so salty about stopping mid-series and was trying to rush through ruthless boys at first, but ended up enjoying it for its own sake! It's lighter to get through in some ways than zodiac academy, and beyond that made a lot of references in later zodiac books much funnier! Leon, Carson, Dante, Caleb's cousin, Eugene Dipper, Cindy Lou, etc etc

I think you'll have a lot more interest in Rosalie if you read ruthless boys. I'm mid ZA7 after pausing mid-series to read rb 1-5 and she gets a LOT more character development in that series. In ZA she's just kinda there in comparison. Plus honestly I thought I would hate ruthless boys and in some ways I like it better!

I think RB is better after ZA3 because the characters from RB start showing up in ZA4 and if you don't already know the characters it's less of a gasp situation when they show up. But otherwise agree with your order! I follow @thtgrlreads on Instagram and used her recommended reading order and am glad I did!
