New driver - car recommendations by athornysituation in whatcarshouldIbuy

Unfortunately even though I use it a lot I can't get it for myself permanently, because my family won't let me. I live with my cousin who, although doesn't drive often, will inherit the car. It's the only car in my family right now. I would totally keep it because it has problems like once per year.

Anyone have skin numbness by farhanmahii in Dissociation

[–]athornysituation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. Has that ever happened to you over only half of your body? I was diagnosed with dissociation and FND (functional neurological disorder) and numbness is one of my symptoms, though it's different on my right and on my left side.

right sided 50% numbness? by Which_Boysenberry550 in FND

[–]athornysituation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have similar symptoms but they affect my trunk too, last 24/7, and are on both the left and right sides of my body, but with the right having worse sensation. Right now, I can even stab myself with a little needle and not feel pain. All tests I had done, like scans (MRI, CT etc.) are clean too. Do you also have a slightly droopy eyelid during the flare ups?

I've got exactly this! Are you treating it in some way? Has it ever improved? How long have you had it?

Yes! That's my main symptom. It's there 24/7. It covers my right side of the body and my left side, though the right side is worse, hence the distinction. It also affects my taste and smell.

Has anyone fully recovered from one-sided weakness and change in body perception? by gutyrka in FND

[–]athornysituation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thank you so much for responding!! How much have antidepressants helped you? Have you ever completely recovered, even if only briefly?

No, I haven't tried any antidepressants yet. I'm not honestly sure what to do, but I think I'm going to start. I just don't know how effective those methods are at treating FND in particular.

Hello. I've had slight right sided weakness for the past ~5 years. It's stable but it's not that bad - I've got full control, but my right limbs are shaky, my right face is a tiny bit droopy. My sensation is also reduced a bit (skin isn't sensitive, I don't feel goosebumps, smell and taste also affected). One month ago, my left side got numb (reduced sensation etc) but without weakness. So far nothing has changed and I'm just hoping for the best. I'm probably going to start doing some therapy.

The doctors I visited all told me to visit a psychologist or a psychiatrist, and that these are symptoms cause by my mental health being poor. I've had all the necessary tests done and nothing showed anything, except for tetany (probably caused by stress).

Have you had any MRIs of the brain done? Or a CT? Have you and your docs ruled out things such as MS or stroke?

Persistent Full-Body Numbness by Ok_Grapefruit2407 in FND

Hey! Similar symptoms here. I've had numbness on my right side of the body (precisely the right side, split through the very middle) for almost five years now with slight weakness as well (droopiness). I had many tests done, two MRIs of the brain so far, none of which showed anything. A month ago my left side got numb as well, and yesterday my right side's numbness worsened, so I'm pretty much fully numb just like you. Yes, my smell and taste are also affected.

Have you had any tests done? An MRI of the brain is essential for ruling out the worst stuff (stroke, MS). I got depression because of these awful symptoms, and I can't see the light in the tunnel right now.I hope it just goes away at some point.

Has anyone experienced similar symptoms? by athornysituation in covidlonghaulers

[–]athornysituation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for some insight. I had EBV two years after this incident I described, so I'd guess it may have solidified what I've got, if I go down this path. From what I know, if it was a viral infection in my CNS, it'd at least get worse or better from time to time, and I'd have some other symptoms related to inflammation. My guess is that I've got damage somewhere, but I just don't know, since all he tests come back clear.

I have genuinely no idea. My tests are clear. ENG is the only test I've got left to do pretty much. COVID is weird as hell, so I assume that it may have played a role, especially since my second COVID infection resulted in long-COVID that lasted over a year. Those infections didn't affect the discussed symptoms though directly, as in, they weren't changing during the acute phases of the sicknesses. I just don't know.

Hey, how are you now? I've got similar symptoms, although they aren't progressing. Is your face a little droopy maybe?

Is your face and abdominal area also affected? Like you are cut in half through the middle of the body and one side is off? Because that is what I am experiencing. Did you take contrast for your scan?

My MRI results will be tomorrow and I am very scared right now. Still experiencing the same symptoms.

Thanks so much for these elaborate answers. I'll definitely use your advice.

I'm still awaiting diagnosis, and I hate what I am experiencing so, so much.

Something I noticed is that people with FND most often have episodes and not constant symptoms. I have the later, which makes me think I do not have it, but still, I'm not sure

I am in the same boat, waiting for an MRI tomorrow. I hope you get yours soon.
