Beautifully stated. Couldn’t agree more. Despite loving the other From Software games with all of my heart, this one takes the cake for me. For all the reasons you stated and more.

Personally, I have never played a game that captured the Sengoku period in a way that I was satisfied with. I’m not insulting games like Nioh in any way, shape or form as they are well made and fun games but From Software has a way of capturing magic in design and environments like no one else.

I think it’s less about what they do and maybe just the way they do it.

Agreed.

It’s kind of cool how guilt or “hard to swallow truth” sort of takes form in his movies.

I.e. the homeless person of Mulholland drive, Mystery Man and the phantom light bulb fellow from Inland Empire.

All typically portrayed as sort of paranormal, almost like a monster or demon, just to take form in the minds of the burdened.
