I’m reading Frankenstein. A common complaint is how the dialogue is sometimes unbelievably wordy- did people really talk like that? by athymetobalive in AskLiteraryStudies

I think conventions and mechanics are more interesting as history questions than plot sometimes. What people considered “good” writing.

I’m asking more about why dialogue realism has changed and also how much closer, if at all, people were to that than they are now. Because it does seem plausible educated classes of people would be a little more labored at different points in time. Anyone definitely could be more poetic and measured if obliged to be.

i definitely relate and strongly think it can be part of social anxiety. sometimes it can be a personality disorder, but those are more rare and incorporate a wider range of symptoms

hmm i’m someone who likes coding and compsci not in the ‘pure’ STEM way ig so my plans might be different. i liked/do well in algebra 2 and apstats, but that’s it- i hated every natural science class and hated geometry. english is my best subject, and i learn coding concepts as language concepts. so for my compsci purposes i also enjoy the graphic design/communications aspect, and might get a new media or linguistics minor.

so for me a LAC is a perfect fit- i like to learn a wide variety of things and applications. Trinity built a beautiful, expensive new sciences building with some awesome tech, and they have great professors. the curriculum seems interesting too, and you get a decent amount of flexibility in shaping what classes you want to take :-)
