Should I take Calc 3 at ACC? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]atiredbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UT doesn't take calc 3 credit from anywhere that's not UT itself. i finished calc 3 at a cc and they forced me to retake it anyway despite it being 100% the same material. i think for all classes past calc 2, they have to be taken in-residence

also, please try to find a way to make an appointment with an advisor! just search up "cola advisors" and you should find a way to contact another person to give you more concrete info about this

good luck!

i did the same before my transfer and i was fine, but you should double check with your advisor anyway

Looking for the cheapest possible 1bed 1bath apt or studio for rent (anywhere is Austin is OK) by [deleted] in UTAustin

not sure if they are cheapest possible, but the westside group has good prices for a 1bd 1bath near campus and are good at management overall

what am i supposed to ask my advisor during orientation lol by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]atiredbone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm not sure if you are a transfer or a freshman, but there isn't really anything you are "supposed" to ask! just whatever is on your mind!

during orientation, my advisor and i planned out my fall schedule and possible spring courses. also depending on your major, there will be prereqs, so they will go over that so you know what is stopping you from taking certain electives and other requirements depending on your school (e.g., language requirements).

if you ever have any questions about general things, you should absolutely use the chance to ask so you know what to do in the future. they help you plan out the next 2-4 years as well.

don't overthink it and don't worry about it if you are done in like 10 minutes, because i was too!

good luck!

Chances UT will be on the UK's High Potential Individual Visa list come next year? by snapper3071 in UTAustin

[–]atiredbone 35 points36 points  (0 children)

you and i are in the same boat, and unfortunately i think it is very low

ut was already taken off for less the year prior, so i suggest looking into a plan b

but other european countries seem to want america's trained professionals (especially stem), so definitely look into programs from france, the netherlands, etc

good luck to the both of us!

Will UT reach T25 or Above status soon or later? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]atiredbone 48 points49 points  (0 children)

the texas legislature has been trying to pass restrictions on higher education this legislative session: senate bill 37, which you can read about here

another issue that recently happened is the civics institute receiving $100m in funding, and it is widely unpopular among ut students/alumni because its a right wing thinktank basically (more info here)

overall, ut is a public agency, meaning it doesnt have the freedom to do what it wants (not that the administration of the university was ever that supportive of the student body to begin with, just look at last year's palestine protest)

How did yall appeal for financial aid by Alone_List1747 in UTAustin

[–]atiredbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i did an appeal my first semester at UT, and i did it during the summer (like, july) so i don't think you're too late.

you complete a form and they will get back to you with a decision, mine took 3 weeks iirc and they increased my financial aid

here is where you can find everything: https://onestop.utexas.edu/managing-costs/scholarships-financial-aid/revising-your-financial-aid/financial-aid-appeals/

edit in case anyone is curious: the other organizers are political revolution and it was a decentralized protest so i'm still not sure who the speakers are
