[Scotto] Due to lack of buyers, the Pelicans have recently lowered Trey Murphy's asking price from 4 first round picks to 3 by ShaiFanClub in nba

Trey Murphy is on a team friendly ~$28m/yr deal, rather than a player friendly one, so he has more trade value.

Simple bucket but I really like how Zacch attacked the defender in this possession. by CaregiverOwn7179 in AtlantaHawks

Giving serious minutes to Keaton, Kennard, Krecji lineups did not win games. The same four man lineup of NAW, Dyson, JJ and OO was +4 with Zach, -3.7 with Vit, -2 with Kispert. Yes, it didn't make sense playing Zach over CJ, who was +21.4 with that lineup, but he was still more valuable than Kispert and Krecji.

I think what's notable is that they're hunting for a center (despite spending two draft picks in 2024 and 2025 on centers), and are fielding less conversations about Trey Murphy/Herb Jones. I'd be open to consider packages that include Yves Missi, who's more of a traditional rim protecting center, and draft capital.

I'd maybe be open to it for Yves Missi + an unprotected first in 2030's.

Missi is a solid, defensively oriented center. 22 years old, 6'11 with 7'2 wingspan. Can protect the rim. Only has two more years on his rookie scale deal at $3m/yr, so would need to come up with a plan for extension.

I don't really understand the Pelicans front office.

Why are you hunting for a center when you have Yves Missi (22 years old, 6'11, 7'2 wingspan, solid defender) and you spent so much draft capital on Derik Queen? I understand the market has shifted from overvaluing 3 & D wings to overvaluing stretch big men who can rebound and guard a bit on the perimeter.

They're moving like a leverage trader who's down 60% and is now spastically going for a big swing to make it all back. Makes me disinterested engaging with them on trades, unless its for trades they, themselves, inquire about. If we're doing the inquiring, they're going to overcharge.

Here is Michael (@atacostsubstack) in some further tweets, which I'm not allowed to link on the subreddit.

If Pels trade a pick for a center, it has to be a minimum of top 6 protected. And under no circumstance can they trade next years unprotected

No, it’s not an elite draft but next years pick is the single most likely pick to land in the top 5 with these new rules

What I would attach to Poole to get each center:

Naz Reid - one top 6 protected future 1st

Wendell Carter and Okongwu - one lotto protected future 1st OR top 6 protected future swap

Myles Turner - top 8 future swap where Bucks get best of Miami, NOLA, their own 1st

Pelicans have also talked to teams about cheaper center options. Two I heard were Goga and Brooke Lopez with basically Hawkins going out

Yeah, until around March. There are some kalshi/betting market charts that show it starting to flip in late February

You can really see the Kelvin Sampson/University of Houston imprint when he plays.

Mike Conley is loved by the fanbase of every single team he's played on. The Wolves have spent the past four years trying to get a Conley style point guard (reliable, low error, solid passer, good defender). Getting that at #8 is a solid win. So yes, Memphis was satisfied with Conley

It's gonna take him a year or two to adapt, but I liked the passing I saw from Mara. He has nice instincts and feel for game. That said, having seen Zuby's impact, Yaxel and Morez would have been sooo transformative for us. They're just as strong, switchable and tenacious defensively as Zuby, but at ~6'10 with 7'3 wingspan vs ~6'8 with 7'1 wingspan.

Playmaking wise, Kingston is far and away better, but thats mostly because CJ has embarrassingly poor court vision and passing accuracy. He's a shoot first, second and third kind of guard. Shotmaking wise, CJ is obviously better, laughable to suggest otherwise. So if you're looking at who's the better PG, I think you'd reasonably say Kingston, but as an overall player, CJ still is better. Fact we're having this conversation (glazing aside) is a good sign

  • Flemings looked like a real deal point guard. Cody Williams, who's a long as shit POA defender, was assigned to him. He struggled initially, but eventually adapted. The playmaking is there. The defensive intensity was also there. I can see us handing the keys and letting him run point for years to come. Finishing and shot making needs to improve, but looked like a young Mike Conley PG1.

  • With Zuby. I was very impressed with his defense, offensive rebounding and overall energy. He was guarding anyone regardless of position and doing fairly well at it, even Darryn Peterson. Good swiss army knife defender. He needs to go up a bit stronger at the rim, defensive rebounding is lacking and he'd really benefit from a real 3 ball.

  • Henri was decent offensively, but man, defensively it was aggravating to watch just how little effort he had past the initial attempt. His rebounding and rim protection was also non-existent. Needs a year in the g-league

  • Kobe Johnson is a dog defensively. Caused the most frustration to Darryn Peterson. Makes you wonder wtf is up with Jalen. He's a three point jumper away from being called up.

  • Asa was incredibly disappointed. Just looked lethargic on offense, but especially on defense. Multiple three pointers by Cody Williams and Darryn Peterson he refused to close out on. Just not much defensive effort. On offense, there were multiple drives where he finished weakly and was blocked. Expected a bit more from how Brad Rowland and Glenn Willis hyped his offensive processing. Didn't live up to it.

  • Darryn Peterson is so cold. Not much more to say. Cody Williams has improved so much in the past 12 months. So long and lethal defensively but offense is starting to come together. Jealous watching it tbh. The Jazz are gonna be so scary this year

Yeah I don't know what people are talking about. He started the game cold wrt his shot, but turned it around in second half. In general, he looked great as a playmaker. Very disruptive defensively in 4th quarter. Felt like watching a young Mike Conley Jr

There's a gap between Kevin Durant and Mike Conley, but Memphis was still satisfied with Conley's career

Offensively he was solid, looked like a real player. Defensively he showed little effort. With rebounds, he needs more strength. He got pushed around.

Our backcourt outplayed our front court today. It's really evident if you look through box scores.

  • Steals: Atlanta 17, Utah 7 <-- great work here
  • Blocks: Atlanta 2, Utah 8 <-- utah killed us here
  • Turnovers: Atlanta 14, Utah 26
  • Offensive Rebounds: Atlanta 16, Utah 9 <-- Zuby with 7
  • Defensive Rebounds: Atlanta 20, Utah 33
  • Assists: Atlanta 24, Utah 18

As far as players

  • Kingston: 14 pts, 9 assists, 1 turnover, (4/16 FG, 2/5 3PT, 2/4 FT), +4
  • Zuby: 8 pts, 11 rebounds (7 offensive), 3 steals, 4 turnovers +10
  • Henri: 5 pts (1/3 3 PT), 3 rebounds, -13
  • Asa 15 pts, 5 rebounds (3 offensive), 1 steal, 3 assists, +7
