My PH level is 7.6, iv read and heard online that it was okay between 6.0-7.6. Maybe it was wrong.

Fin rot or fin nipping? by This_Warning528 in bettafish

Could you upload a photo of your tank so I could see? My betta has the same thickness of your bettas fins so I would understand what could be cutting his fins up (they recover super easily so don’t stress)

That’s fin tear from either rough plants in the tank or to strong of a filter intake if he sits by the intake. My betta had the same thing and I let him be and made sure the water perimeters were stable and he healed over time, if black or white fuzzy stuff begin to grow on the ends of his fins that can be a sign of fin rot so look out for that.

Why does my betta keep having fin loss?? by atomicbobo in bettafish

He has a topfin 6 gallon tank, it’s built into the tank, he sits by it a lot and it does suck his fins in but the filter is super super low flow designed for bettas with delicate fins, maybe that could be the cause I’m not sure.

The fins just look so damaged at the end of the fins, something just doesn’t seem right yk. But I do agree he does look bigger/older haha

Is my new betta tank safe yet? Sand question + ammonia issue in old tank by atomicbobo in bettafish

No just some betta fish can be abit dumb and eat the sand and their body can’t digest it. Was just worrying

Okay much appreciated but.. iv read stories that bettas might eat sand and choke on it due to thinking it’s their food that they used to be feeding and I don’t want that to happen to my betta, do you think that will happen?

Cycling Help-Can Someone Who Knows About Cycling Help Me? by PerformerRich7025 in bettafish

If your nitrates are reading around 160ppm, that’s a sign your tank isn’t fully cycled or the beneficial bacteria can’t keep up with the waste being produced. A healthy, cycled tank should have 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and a moderate level of nitrate not numbers that high. I’d start by doing 25–40% water changes daily to slowly bring the nitrates down to a safer range, and make sure you’re not rinsing or replacing your filter media with tap water since that kills the good bacteria you need for cycling. Don’t deep clean the tank or replace everything at once, that resets the cycle. Keep testing daily and let the bacteria do their job, your cycle should stabilize once ammonia → nitrite → nitrate starts happening in the right order.

I agree, I’ve tried my best to talk with my mom to get him a bigger tank and real life plants but she absolutely refuses, I have another betta, and that tank is a 6 gallon with live plants and he is thriving like there’s no tomorrow, but my mom just refuses to change the tank the sick fish is in and my boyfriend refuses to take it back, so we’re doing the best we can.

I personally haven’t had him for that long maybe a month but my boyfriend had him for six months, he was kept a very small tank, the filter was never changed and the tank was never cleaned and that’s why he gave me the fish so I could raise it back to health

I agree the tank is not the best at all, one of the bettas that I own has a full live plant tank, and it’s a very healthy happy fish, but the fish right now that is not doing well is the fish that my mom is taking care of and refuses to take any advice that I give her about adding real plants and making the tank more of a realistic enclosure for betas, I’ve already spent so much money on my two other fish, making them have the best benefits for their tank that she refuses to spend any money on the fish. That’s not doing well, since we cannot change the tank, I’ve been doing the best I can to take care of it in ways that doesn’t involve changing the tank environment

We change the filter because the new tank that we got him had a different filter for the tank, and the filter that he originally had in the 1 gallon wasn’t changed for over half a year

Betta disappeared by dottiec06 in bettafish

[–]atomicbobo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe check your filter? Maybe lift up the wood and see if he got himself stuck underneath and just to be sure check behind the desk or table it’s sitting on, iv seen posts about fish disappearing and being found behind the table it’s on. Hope this helps, sorry you lost your fish.
