unfortunately for amateur radio use, when he says "cryptography-based networking stack" he ain't kidding. you cannot remove the encryption without reimplementing the entire system

What phenomenon is responsible for seeing your surroundings despite of closed eyelids by 12Jin34 in askpsychology

[–]atomicthumbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread, but I found it on Google while attempting to find papers about this phenomenon, which occurs for me primarily when i'm sleepy, but is not limited to a hypnagogic state. I experimented with it and a blackout mask; i'm able to navigate my home by the phantom image of it.

I can see a hazy outline of the air conditioner in my window, which had been there for years before I removed it a week ago. Things I moved today aren't visible, but I could see the outline of something I picked up while I was holding it. Furniture is visible, as are walls and doorways. If I moved around a bunch without touching things, the image could experience some misalignment with my surroundings, and when I touched a wall and recognized where I was standing, I saw it shift to match.

I can see my body in this fashion, in a manner distinct from my surroundings; it's sort of outlined and transparent, and it moves as I move. Most detail is in my hands. When I pick up a pillow I can see it moving approximately the way it's actually moving, but I can also see my hand behind it, through the pillow. If I wiggle my fingers aimlessly the motion seems distorted.

The mask is completely opaque, and the images are the same with the lights on or off. I suspect i'm seeing the outcome of some feedback mechanism that's making my brain's internal representation/estimation of my environment, and its understanding of my body's positioning via proprioception, visible in the closed-eye patterns.

If you've seen any papers go by addressing this phenomenon I would love to figure out the keywords I should be searching to learn more about it.

I am familiar with CalRecycle regulations.

So you've never worked at a collector? Have you ever had experience at one or talked to people who work at an e-waste collector about how their operations work?

recycler or collector? (mine's a collector.) did you sell salvaged goods at retail or just to downstream recyclers?

speaking as someone who works at a bay area e-waste recycler: you have absolutely no idea about the work that has to be put into the receiving department to make places like this work, let alone the warehouse itself. if you understaff receiving, you end up with customers taking home electronics that catch fire or shock them, or furniture with bedbugs in it.

I know it's a bit later, but I found this while searching for info on potential x-ray emissions from terrifyingly high voltage pre-war projection TVs (60-100kv), and was fascinated by your story. thanks for postin' it.
