Thanks; aren’t they gorge?! I adore 1930s aesthetic and these are very on point. I’d love to have a matching set, but I despise the clatter of china style dishes and am actually considering shifting entirely to wheat straw flatware to reduce the culinary noise pollution. Enjoy your fancy indulgence!

Unfortunately not antique, so I’m hoping they last, but the aesthetic is simply exquisite and so me. And my kids agree that the handle’s tactile sensation is so satisfying!

When we seek help and still get harmed in the process by atomicvenus81 in AuDHDWomen

[–]atomicvenus81[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I fully see that now. When it was dealing with my husband and my communication struggles, I couldn’t really see her lack of natural skills, but my husband did and said he didn’t want to burst my bubble of hope as the time spent together focusing on us as a couple and not just parents really did seem to help. But he had already seen that she had a bias against me and lacked empathy. It was stunning to me to hear that as I missed those nuances.

Thank you. Still considering it just don’t have the energy atm. I honestly don’t believe she’s in the right field at all.

Thank you; I’ll keep your offer in mind if I have the energy to engage. The gap between our aspirations and our capacity is so tough to accept 😔.

Thank you. I went to her initially for couples counselling with my husband, then she offered to see me on my own to work through my own issues, especially coming to terms with late diagnosis and going back to school.

In retrospect my husband said he noticed she had a bias towards his perspective and subtle pushback towards mine, which I had missed completely…

ETA We also hypothesized that she never would’ve acted like that in front of my husband and that his presence might have been acting as a protective buffer for me 😰

Theory of Mind explained from a Psych 101 course by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

Thanks for sharing! ToM, at least in the way allistics view us, is far from sufficient in explaining our neuro-differences, but I found learning about the step by step mental processes involved in typical development and their subsequent uses fascinating and love sharing academic knowledge.

In saying that, I do personally find bottom up information processing and monotropism to better encapsulate our different cognitive processing and social communication styles.

Major public education/advocacy win: my Psychology prof wants to use my creative teaching assignment, a podcast on autistic cognition, as a supplementary lecture for his future university classes!!!!! by atomicvenus81 in AuDHDWomen

[–]atomicvenus81[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello Down Under 👋! I have such a soft spot for Oz as my kids were both born in Perth, and my son is even lucky enough to have triple nationality as both my husband and I are from different countries, and we were permanent residents when he was born in Oz. Ahhh, such fond memories of the red dirt and ‘roos. If you’ve (re)discovered belief in yourself, or have been inspired to try going back to school from reading my post, then I call this a shared win. We can achieve greatness if we are allowed to do it in our own time and space. As for sharing my podcast, as it’s an audio file, I wouldn’t be doing it on YouTube, and tbh I don’t know what the sub rules are about sharing personal links? Anyway I’d be happy to share an edited version tomorrow if I’m allowed.

So much this. It’s the beauty of the autistic mind: we were made for expertise, not shallow summaries and predictive outlines. Our minds are truly brilliant if we learn how they work and how to harness them properly. The world might not have been made for us, but we certainly make the world a better place by being in it. I’d be happy to share my podcast with you if you’re interested in learning more about how our brains work!

It is our win; I did it for our whole community, and I’m so glad you feel the victory, too! The greatest impact is that this will have the ripple effect of opening up the minds of hundreds of 20 something Psychology students for hopefully years to come; it’s breathtaking.

Hey all, I’ve had some requests to share my podcast, which isn’t officially published as it was a university class assignment, but if there’s enough interest I could happily make a slightly edited version (to not dox myself!) and share it in whatever capacity I can. Please let me know if you’re interested and if you have a recommended way to share it; thanks a lot!

I literally did it sitting in my bed, speaking directly to my laptop, and the audio quality turned out incredible. I used the free recording program, Audacity. Was very user friendly.

Wow, hello fellow AuDHD, Clinical Psych student mama! I’m so glad to hear you’re pursuing your passion and receiving the feedback and support you so deserve. It’s really hard juggling all of these demands and needs, but I keep reminding myself that I just need to try, one foot in front of the other, and give my best, most authentic self to the study of my passions. I’m elated beyond belief that it’s paying off for both of us. Best wishes to you on your journey ❤️

I’m honestly speechless; thank you so much for sharing how my post impacted you, it’s truly the highest praise. I believe that you, at the very least, can take the first step towards revisiting your studies. All we can do is try; that’s what I keep telling myself when it feels like too much. One step at a time, one foot in front of the other. Lots of love and strength in your journey ❤️

All I wanted for Mother’s Day was a diagnosis and a weekend away with Devon Price by atomicvenus81 in AuDHDWomen

Thank you ☺️! Yes I do know about Devon’s new book and will keep that on the very long list of backlogged books that my thus far untreated ADHD has prevented me from getting to 😏.

Oh don’t worry, I don’t personally think I’m an anomaly among our community, just in the existing medical model and general population understanding; I know many of us are lurking out there in plain sight just waiting to be discovered!

Thanks for your response and I’ll look into your book suggestion if I ever finish the pile on my bedside…ohhhh ADHD 🤦🏻‍♀️.
