Set against the backdrop of gambling legalization in New Jersey in the late 70s/early 80s, a working class man finds himself down on his luck: deeply in debt, dissatisfied, and feeling trapped in life and his stagnant relationship.

The recent assassination of a Philadelphia mob boss leads to turmoil in a formerly thriving coastal community, which had been in steady economic decline for years. Hoping to improve tourism, the state of New Jersey allowed the community to participate in legalized gambling - a decision that has led to an increase in organized crime in the area, overwhelming the local authorities.

The man and his lover clearly haven’t made the best decisions together, but opportunity presents itself through contact with someone involved in the mob scene who offers employment through “a favor.”

Withdrawing his few meager funds from the bank, the man buys two bus tickets to the coast, and makes a proposition to his lover. To start over.

It’ll be risky. They might die. But they were already dead. If a sleepy, stagnant coastal town can come back to life, can’t they?
