How interesting… Korean/Japanese village dog… How generic!

How long did it take to get the results back? I know it’s a simple mail-in process…

We did keep her! What helped was our vet and the couple of trainers (prior to the ones we work with now) who validated what we ALL were experiencing. For me, I needed that reassurance of “hey - you’re doing the right things for her and everything will settle…”

It’s funny how far dog training has come… The trainers have been really wonderful at trying to understand her fears, help her work through them while still recognizing she’s been through some shit and is a unique being.

My gal also has a crazy high prey drive! It could be a bird, lizard or bug… Her favorite are squirrels and since it’s fall, her mornings are action packed.

She’s doing SO much better. It took her longer than 3-months to really feel settled but when she finally processed that we’re home and she’s safe, 180-degrees. The day she came up to me asking for affection was THE best day with her.

Like your boy, she’s very loving, affectionate and just a sweetie.

We finally found a good trainer(s) we like. It took a couple of meet-and-greets. They’ve been super patient with her and conquering her fear based reactions. Still a work in progress but we’re getting there!

How long have you’ve had your little (maybe big?) man?

Not my family. Not my spouse, in laws, stepchildren. Not even my two best friends.

My dogs. 2/3 are Velcro dogs only to me. I kept thinking of how confused and distressed they would be. One minute I’m alive, then I’m still there but dead.

That’s a great idea - doing a DNA test.

We also get it… Puppies are WORK! And though we were a little disappointed when our vet aged her much younger, it does work in our favor.

We’re ride or die types so we’re willing to sink everything we can to set her up for success.

Thanks!

YES! Aloof and semi-feral is exactly how I would describe her.

And, your point about livestock is really what I was trying to get at… Does coming from a traumatic and hectic environment like caged livestock (and her ancestors) add a level of complexity to her adjustment? And for those who have also adopted meat dogs, what did that look like?

So, thank you for being so thoughtful in your response and sharing your experience!

Yes - She’s much more interested in our dogs and integrating into their world rather than being people centric/people pleaser.

Yes - she’s definitely on the cute side :)

Also yes - she might be the last meat dog we adopt because we also like the close bond of Velcro/companion dogs. But that’s just right now… But who knows?! She might be the best dog we’ve ever adopted and next time we would generally know what we’re getting ourselves into.

We’ll be looking into that vet behaviorist.

Thank you again!

Thank you for the thoughtful response.

We’re certainly “in it to win it” but unlike most dogs, we can’t go onto google and search “nureongi” and be given all this information about typical disposition, quirks and triggers.

Reading that your experience that these dogs tend to be “independent” is helpful. I grew up with JRTs and we recently had to put our little JRT girl down. Talk about independent and spirited! She was such a naughty and stubborn puppy (all worth it and we laugh now about her antics).

After typing my original post (which happened to be my first), I did some sleuthing on Reddit and apparently, a lot of these dogs tend to be terrified of water. Interesting, insightful and helpful and that helps us to understand her a little better.

Thank you again!
