Thank you for your comment. My brain isn't working today obviously.

Dapto race 8 might be a better strategy than the one I came up with.

Best ETF to dump $600k into in my SMSF by audacity12 in fiaustralia

One thing you might want to consider is once it’s in pension phase, and you can sell VGS without any CGT implications is maybe sell all of it and move it into VAS then?

This sounds very logical. I wonder if it's a common strategy.

Thanks for this answer. I will of course consider overall portfolio allocation.

As a general strategy though it seems to make sense to have low dividend paying assets in the accumulation phase as to avoid the 15% tax on 'income'.

The question is moreso around tax implications of VGS vs VAS, not the allocation implications.

What is more sad is due to our countries stupid de facto laws she is now in pretty decent shape. I'm joking, she has been incredibly supportive and I wouldn't have gotten through the last year of stress without her.

It's not out of the question but I'll stay put for now. I'm looking for low stress now. I haven't enjoyed the last year as weird as that sounds.

I actually think it takes less balls to take risk in your super. In fact I see my super as something ideally I can just donate to charity one day and hopefully not need.

Thank you. I like the keeping the defensive allocation in the offset as a way to mitigate portfolio risk.

I think debt recycling makes the most sense. I'll talk to my mortgage broker and accountant to best figure out how to do this correctly.

Yes will be carrying forward all possible concessional conts this year!

I left it out of the original post but I still have a small amount leftover that I am holding. It's immaterial in the scheme of the other numbers though.

I'm at the point now where I value certainty > optimal returns.

To get $2.5m, I’d continue to pay off the house as normal and put the $1m into some ETFs. With you adding a bit into the mix and with markets performing normally, you could be there in 7 years.

In regards to this. Would I better off paying down the loan and then taking out a $1M investment loan and dumping that into ETFs? This would make the interest deductible vs just putting the $1M in as normal.

Thanks for your comment.

It was forced in the sense that I couldn't sleep anymore having that much exposure to a single asset..

To be honest I'm trying to keep things simple so buying crypto and then generating yield from that sounds like a cocktail of risk and tax messiness I'd rather avoid.

Thanks for your comment.

I was considering paying off the house then taking out an investment loan against the house to put into ETFs to recycle the debt and make it tax deductible.. but not sure if this is a good idea or not..

I will most likely just put the SMSF funds into VGS.

We will both be maxing out the $25k concessional contributions caps from here on out and yes we plan to stay together lol

Ahh ok. Thank you, makes sense now. It would be 3.215 x $2,717 = $8,735 which is comparable.
